How does one go about getting a tank filled by the local fire department?

yep. But, be prepared for them to not have the correct adapters.. you're first visit may be for "research and discovery"

Fire houses in city of Chicago dont even have a hook up at there houses. They send them out to get filled. Knowing they have hundreds and hundreds of tanks.

Make sure you don't take them DOUGHNUTS! I know someone who offered them to our fireman buddy, his reaction, " I'M A FIREMAN NOT A #&$%÷ COP! LOL, Lots O Love for both. Jeff
