Tuning Air Venturi Avenger leak.

Hello all. I need some direction. I recently purchased

on Ebay a new Avenger with no box or papers. I bought all the parts to convert to bottle. After I degassed and installed all parts, I filled back up with air. I noticed a hissing sound where the regulator is. I took it out to inspect it. Clean as new. I tried again. Still leaking. I tried thread tape whit and yellow, still leaking. I added a little greese. Yup, still leaking. I am at a loss as what to do now. This is a gift for my daughter who's birthday is 46 days from now. I called Air Venturi. They said I could send it in but I have no warranty. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

This sounds like what I am experiencing. I degassed the gun, turned the regulator adjustment all the way in, then back out 1/4 turn, and now a TON of air escapes out the shortest tube (near the 6k burst) at around 1000 psi and won't charge any further.

I have NOT removed my regulator yet. Does it require drifting the stop pin out I assume?

Oh, and everything is factory. I just followed the directions in the manual for lowering reg pressure and this happened. I have roughly 2000 shots through this gun.

I will be watching this one with interest.

@Golfdad - Mine developed a leak after degassing a couple times. Turned out to be some crud that was left inside from manufacturing....the crud got lodged in between the bleed screw and seal. Are you sure it's leaking at the reg? When mine leaked, it was coming out of one of the holes in the cover, next to the bleed screw. Also, when I had my reg out, I found the o-rings had some damage (cut during assembly....at the factory). Might be worth looking at the o-rings with magnification....or just replace them.

@trophysquirrel - yes, drift the pin out enough to provide clearance to unscrew the reg. 2mm, if I remember correctly.

Edit: the pic in this post was illustrating the reg seal, but you can see where there might be a problem with the o-ring (I replaced it....I'll see if I can dig up where I found the "equivalent" size suggested by Tyler Patner). https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/avenger-regulator-newbie-questions/#post-1005567

Edit2: the small one's equivalent is a -005 (3/32"ID x 7/32"OD x 1/16"CS B90). Here's the thread: https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=177140.0 The op in that thread used a -006. This is too big. The -005 is mentioned a few posts down.

I bought a 22 AV Avenger a couple weeks ago, degassed, adjusted the trigger and turned down the regulator, then put it away full regret from buying it.

My wife talked me into buying it, I was having trouble keeping my two 22 Sheetrock rock guns up and running, sheet rock guns to me are inside Airguns tuned to just stick in the Sheetrock when you get a ldc clip. One a much modded prod and the other which made me swear off china guns, , a cursed Diana Skyhawk.

And of course being Chinese junk, I just knew it was going to leak, that and sounding like a abused box of cornflakes being pulled off a cliff by a Ford deselect truck with a bad engine rattle, did not help my confidence.

I had learned the Avenger is hard to turn down so I figured it was way too powerful for inside work.

After a while all the Avenger posts got to me so I went to work tuning it and setting it up as a inside 10 yard gun.

Tuning was easy, all the way in and all the way out for maximum low power gave me 780 fps with cheap Crosman hps, still at the upper limits of what I wanted power wise, it works.

I added a Emperor and being a 1880’s gun leather maker, I laminated three pieces of saddle leather together and crafted it into a a cheek riser to line up the Hawke 4x16 Sidewinder.

The result was a very long, comfortable mild mannered rifle that shoots tiny round groups with cheap pellets.

The leak has not manifested itself yet, but being a china gun and a pcp, I am sure it will.

When I pick it up it still sounds like it will self destruct before P.A gets the next shipment of replacement wood stocks in.

Now as far as shooters spending a ton of money modding cheap guns, it is their money and their guns and simply not any bodies business but their own.

Regards,
