Air Venturi Avenger regulator question

I'm new to the PCP hobby and recently acquired an Air Venturi Avenger in .22 caliber. So far the gun is a blast to shoot and is a real tack driver out to 50 yds. I have a question on the regulator though. If I degas the gun and start with the screw 1/4 open, the reg seems to go to 2100 or so on the gauge. I've tried less than 1/4 turn on the screw and I can't seem to get the reg below 2000. Anyone else experiencing this? Is the reg screw that touchy on these guns?

I not long ago read a thread exactly like this. My experience is I bought a 22 early in the avenger birth and it didn’t do this. A year later I bought a 25 cal. I forget exactly how much I opened the reg after I degassed it but I do remember being surprised when I aired it up that it was already 2k. Maybe there is something to this with the newer guns. I take it that you have tried degassing and then airing it up with the reg screw completely closed??

I just had that same problem with my Avenger and most likely the Delrin seal is damaged or was skewed in too tight from installation leaving a dimple on the face of the Delrin bushing. I would send it back or if you are mechanically gifted on those types of regulators a good polishing until the dimple is gone will likely solve your problem. Be safe warranty sakes and talk to Air Venturi Tech Dept. I fixed my Avenger myself and out of five Avengers, I have no issues. They are each tuned differently.
Hope this will help !

Thanks. I have not tried degassing and filling up with the reg screw closed. Maybe that's the next step.

Apply silicone grease or silicone oil to the O-rings.

Silicone provides no useful lubricating properties for metal-on-metal contact so if you want to lubricate the Belleville washers, use a conventional lubricant (30W oil, automatic transmission fluid, Super Duper Alien Spacecraft lube, etc.). The Bellevilles occupy the vented chamber at atmospheric pressure, therefore a hydrocarbon-based lube is okay.

That's the Cliff's Notes version but if you want to read over a prior thread on regulator maintenance and lubrication, the following one goes into more detail:
