Air Venturi Compressor Mod

I finally finished a mod on my AV compressor I have been going to do for over a year.

I give you the auto purge:

Cycle timer is a 24 VDC from E-Bay since electronics are 24 VDC in the control box. Timer is adjustable from 1 to 999 seconds on both cycle and purge time. In the second photo on the left side you can see my desiccant input air dryer and plumbing and in the center of the photo the auto purge 110 VAC NC solenoid valve (5K PSI).

A simple operational test of the auto purge has been done but no time for a full test yet. Wiring and power are all done in the AV Control box below the panel. The Timer circuit is energized when the Cooling system switch is on!

In addition to the AV oil and moisture separator that the Auto purge is connected to there is also another filter housing (not shown) with a FilterTechs Zeolite / Activated Carbon filter to remove any remaining moisture and any residual oil vapor from the final compressed air.

Nice mod but wouldnt it be easier to just get a hatsan lighting? It's the same compressor plus has auto purge and digital gauge. Also it's only $1093 on field supply vs the $1499 price tag on PA and AD for the AV compressor.

Hardly easier when the AV and valve and filter is owned already and cash is not available for another compressor purchase and IF it was it would be an Akin. It would certainly NOT be one from Hatsan! I do not do business with Hatsan and Field Supply!

As far as a prefilter and a quantifiable difference I have no measurement tools to make that determination. I can say that the color change desiccant beads are changing color indicating that moisture is being stopped before entering the compressor. I have to regenerate them about every 4 compressor runs but that only takes a few minutes in the Microwave. YMMV due to different humidity conditions at your location.

Ha! I’m a big fan of my Lightning. Other than the recent burnt out switches, really no problems at all.

T3PRanch, I’m not here to combat you on the Lightning, lol, just to let you know that that was awesome you came up with your own auto purge, and I agree, when my Lightning does go, The Akin is the next on the purchase list.

Im actually prepping for that, by not asking wifey for a “loan” to get that Raptor gun I want so baaaaddd. But instead, using the next “please, baby, please” for that compressor instead.

Thanks Bigragu. I have nothing against the Hatsan compressor. I DO have a big issue with Hatsan the company but that is not a topic for discussion on this forum!

Oh and by the way you NEED the Raptor as much as a compressor .... I am waiting on my .257 High Power version. I traded Travis for the Raptor Demo gun quite a while back but due to unforeseen circumstances it will now be a new Raptor and I had it upgraded to the HP version! ;)

I have a potential failure non related to the modification which is working perfectly once I installed a restrictor in the vent line. There is quite a bit of air coming from the crankcase breather and although the compressor reaches full pressure it takes WAY too long so I am thinking the 1st stage cylinder reed valve may be failing? :(

Less than 25 hours run time. First 2 pics are the low pressure valve plate. Last 2 are the low pressure reed valve which shows some scoring. I have said it in other threads but I will say it again ..... HNBR O-rings are WORTHLESS in high pressure applications as they creep and extrude as shown in the picture above of the final 3rd stage o-ring. 3rd stage piston seals were pristine (sorry no pic). Also shown next to the "Bubble Gum" o-ring is the small HP reed valve. It did not look bad but was replaced since I had the HP side apart.
