JTS aircuda standard .22 best hammer spring tune for 14.3 grain.

I'm shooting 18's in mine so I can't help with 14's, but when I got my standard the fps was fluctuating all over the place and I was only getting around 25 shots.
I didn't know anything about adjusting the hammer spring but I read enough here and gave it a go with my chrony.
It took a lot of trial and error to get it right, but now I have a good 40 shot string on setting 4.
On setting four I get a high of 945 with the 18's, you might be able to get the fps you want with the 14's on setting 3 and you should get 50-60 shots I'm guessing ?

You can buy a shorter spring from a manufacturing site like grainger, mcmastercarr, fastenel so that you are not over sprung for lighter pellets, as that is the way most of these guns come. There generally is not enough adjustment in the hammer spring to let the hammer free fly and not keep hitting the valve after the shot is done. Free flight allows for more efficient tune and less hammer strike, using less air. Some have dremeled off a few coils of their spring or you can measure your stock outside and inside diameters and wire thickness of the stock spring and buy different length ones to test and see what works best for the tune you are after.

sweet thanks guys for tips..... gotta figure out how to tear down. like the idea about a shorter spring. it has ALOT OF noise when hammer strikes. love it very much and cant wait to tune down a little and do trigger job. out of box gettn half a dime at 30 yds off knee. with chps to boot!!! HAHAH. Im not complaining! very sweet rig no doubt! :)

I think with your Airacuda set at the middle power setting (calling it 3) you should be able to adjust the hammers spring to get your 870 fps average. Mine came with the hammer spring adjusted flush to the back of the receiver, and shooting CPHP 14.3s at power setting 3 I averaged 806 fps, and at power setting 4 (medium high) I averaged 955 fps. If you don't have a chronograph pick up one of the $30 ones off of Amazon that clamp to your barrel. And don't forget there is a locking grub screw for the hammer spring adjustment screw (you don't want to booger up the threads).

As long as you have a Chrony I would start to turn it in (tighten) until it stops. While doing this keep close attention to exactly how many rotations it took to do that. Write it down somewhere. Now you will be able to return to the stock starting point at any time. Then I would just play around with lowering it and see what happens.

OK SOUNDS GREAT. THANKS ALL FOR EXCEELNT ADVICE. WAS LOOKING AT THE CRONYS LOOK SOLID. THINK ILL ATART WITH THAT. TURN OUT ALL THE WAY AND START DIALING IN ON THE 4TH SETTING. THEN GET IT AROUND 860 FPS A. THEN DOWN THE ROAD ILL CHECK OUT SOME OTHER SPRINGS AFTER I RESEARCH A LITTLE. PROM WHAT I'VE RESEARCHED IM SHOOTN FOR 80 GOOD SHOTS....YES NOT TO BAD...LOVE THE AIRCUDA.... THANKS ALL.
