Tuning Airforce condor ss help

I have a .22 airforce condor as. It’s came with a Neil moderator. So I removed it before due to clipping issues. Then got everything else square and got some nsa slugs that shoot great. Wanted to get the noise back down again so though about putting the moderator back on. The problem is I can get it zeroed with pellets they shoot pretty good with it but the slugs I can’t even tell where they r going. It does not sound like clipping but I am lost here on what to do.

What pellets and what slugs are you using; weights and velocities?

I have a Condor SS as well. I tried shooting heavy pellets and slugs through the rifle but soon discovered several problems.

1) the barrel twist isn't fast enough to stabilize the heavy pellets and/or slugs. I have settled on the Nielsen 24.8 grain slug in .2175 diameter. You may want to go with a larger diameter. The slugs sometimes back out of the breach causing accuracy problems. I carry a pellet seater to push the slugs in a little deeper and the problem is solved.

2) When I first got the rifle I tried to drive the pellets and slugs fast at 900-1000 fps. That caused leading of the barrel; especially around the muzzle. It is a choked barrel. The bore scope revealed a lot of leading close to the muzzle. So I took the rifle completely apart, cleaned the barrel with Kroil and JB Bore Paste. I think that polishing the barrel with that stuff really helped.

3) I also got the Ring-Loc kit and am using the .145" insert with the power wheel set at 3 1/2. I also put the o-ring behind the top hat.

4) I found that the start pressure was best at about 2400-2300 PSI. This will give me 30 good shots with an average of 840 FPS. This keeps the leading down. This also gives me almost 39 FPE at the muzzle. At 50 yards where the rifle is zeroed, the retained energy is about 33 FPE.

5) Like you I tried an additional moderator. It was the Talon Tunes moderator. I don't think clipping was the issue. I think that it might be a problem with the aerodynamics of both the slug and the pellet passing through the moderator. I have the same moderator added to the Talon SS in .22 shooting the JSB 15.89 grain pellets at an average of 781 FPS without any problems. So keep the moderator off of the Condor SS.

6) I had a problem with the top hat unscrewing from the valve. So I removed the top hat, applied Vibra-Tite VC3 to the thread and reinstalled the top hat. Problem solved.

If I had to do it over again, I think that I would have got the Condor SS in .25 caliber. I'm not an expert but I think that the rifle's valve design was meant to shoot the heavier pellets and perhaps the .25 caliber would be better suited.

For now, I'm not changing things. Hope this helps.

Yeah I never had a problem with the top hats. I think am going to polish it at some point but think I want to do it with bore mop or nylon brush. It shoots 18gr really well I have had it shooting the 24gr slugs really well before even had the lcd working at that point. But when I changed things up. It’s like I have to readjust n retune everything again. I want to try the 17gr slugs at some point but really gonna need the pellet seater for them. The 20gr like to back out n jam if I don’t catch it. My next things are gonna be a compressor and talon tunes lcd when I can get some more extra cash together.love the way the rifle feels n shoots when it’s right

The Talon Tunes LDC really gets the Talon SS mouse-fart-quiet. I shot at a bunch of mice and rats in a field one night with a thermal scope on it. The rodents were not skittish at all.

If I missed, I could see the impact of the pellet, even on the thermal. Then I'd adjust my holdover and get them on the next shot.

The Talon SS was so quiet they didn't realize that death was seconds away.

The LDC wasn't good for the Condor SS.

The lcd I have worked great when everything is lined up just right but that’s a pain in the ass because has play inside the shroud. I have some 20gr slugs to .217 made my own seater today for them. Gonna try n see how well they shoot in the 800s. Most distance I shoot mite be 50 to 60 yards if that. But man sounds like u can make one hell of a setup thermal n all.lol

I very recently got an Airforce Escape in .22 (basically the frame and bottle of a TalonP with the guts of a Condor). I've added a DonnyFL Sumo, the tophat kit and a bigger bottle (0.38L vs 0.20L). I started off shooting NSA 0.2175 diameter 27.5 gr and now 24.8 gr slugs. With the current tune I'm getting 23 shots at 900-960 fps. I'm hoping with a bit more tuning I'll get 30+ shots over 900 fps. In my limited experience with slugs, they like to go fast, so I try to keep them between 900 and 1,000 fps. I have a regulator and carbon fiber bottle on order that I hope will give me a smoother shot curve and much higher shot count.

Not sure about your setup but I know I get more shots then that. Fill about 22 to 2400psi n down to about 18. Think get maybe 40 or so shots maybe more never counted. Thinking about getting heavier hammer with slap mod see if can get a better shot count n better string. Need the .2175 slugs with .217 have to use a seater to push them in a lil

What regulator and CF bottle are you getting? Links? Thanks.

I have the same Talon Tunes moderator on my Talon P and yes it is very effective and the TalonP is a very loud PCP without it.

I got the Talon Tunes Talon P several months ago. Tony puts the moderator on it as standard equipment. I could not be happier.
I know he does on his AAA TalonP. That was what I bought from him. I got it to dispatch midnight raiders in the chicken pen without waking the whole neighborhood. I never expected it to be as much fun as it has turned out to be.

I got the regulator and bottle on Amazon and they both came in this week. I spent the afternoon tuning it and came to the conclusion that the regulator won't do what I want. It's awesome for shooting 18 gr pellets (I was getting a huge shot count at 850 - 950 fps) but the fastest I could get the NSA 24.8gr slugs was 700 fps. So I'm not sure what I'll do with it.

Here's the bottle:
