Airforce Condor SS or Talon SS

Condor SS's have an 18" barrel while the Talon SS has a 12" barrel. I have a Talon SS in 22 and a Condor SS in .25 that I just got rid of. I think your preference should be based upon your needs. Obviously the Condor SS will give you more power with the longer barrel, but it's not going to give you as many shots per fill as the Talon SS. The Condor has a larger opening to shoot air, so it's obviously more powerful at the sacrifice of shots. The condor will also be louder in stock configuration. That being said I know a lot of people like after market shrouds to help with the noise, so I think you can get the Condor's sound level down pretty low. My Talon SS in .22 with an aftermarket shroud is VERY QUIET. Think about how you intend to use your air rifle, and pick accordingly. Condor SS with more power, more sound and less shots? Or Talon SS with less sound and power but many more shots per fill.

"badammo"I am considering buying either a Condor SS or Talon SS. So what is the difference between the two? It is hard to see from the stat pages and advertisements.
I'm going out to shoot my buddies Talon SS this weekend .. it shoots JSB 18.1 gr pellets at about 800 fps .. a nice shooter. I have a Condor SS, it shoots 21.1gr Kodiaks at over 1000fps and shoots JSB 18.1gr'ers at 1045 (really too fast)... it is a real hunting machine.

The Talon is a nice gun and plenty of power for starling squirrels, rabbits at 40ish+ yard ranges, but the Condor is another beast all together. I don't know what the ,25 Condor SS will do, but I bet it will shoot a JSB King Heavy (34gr) in the 850-900 fps range, that is 35+fpe at 90 yards .... a very serious hunting rig for sure.

I would like someone that has a 25 Condor SS to chime in with their velocities !

Your choice depends on what type of shooting you will be doing, each gun has its own purpose ... one is not better, they each serve a purpose. the Talon SS is sure a nice size gun and I do like that very much. The Condors are a bit biggish and bulky to my way of thinking, but all my AirForce guns are Condors, because of the awesome power they have for the type of shooting I do! ... I'm just say'n !

I know it is a tough decision as I'm pondering a Condor SS in .25 or something lighter and handier ... hence the reason I borrowed my buddies Talon to shoot this weekend.

The Talon is 6 inches shorter than the Condor, but it feels much shorter and handier. The Talon has a 12" barrel and the Condor an 18" the Talon valve is not the same as a Condor, but a Condor tank can be put on a Talon and you wind up with a little powerhouse of a rifle .... I'll go to bed tonight thinking about it.

Well I slept on it and played with my buddies Talon today. shot Jumbo Heavies 18.1 gr. I shot 10 shots on a full tank and averaged about 800+fps ... a nice shooter for sure. I also played with my 22 cal Condor SS ... yes 6 inches longer, but not unwieldy .... 1000+ fps with Kodiaks.

The difference in power difference is dramatic, I know these are two different pellets and pellet weights, but the Talon can't push the Kodiaks fast enough for me. At long range shooting (50-90 yards) the Condor has over 40+% more energy then the Talon. The Talon is a nice gun and has good power, but not what I'm after.

In 25 Cal, the Talon would be pretty weak unless I did some mods and then the price goes up. A modded Talon (shroud and Condor valve/tank) with the same power as a 25 cal Condor SS is about the same price, but I think resale on the Condor SS would be more, could be wrong, just a hunch.

So I decided my next power house gun will be a Condor SS in 25 cal .... I'll be looking for a as new used one, if I don't find one in a few weeks (I'm in no hurry), it is to R&L Airguns I go, where I have purchased all my Condors and have gotten great service........I highly recommend them !

In about 2 hours I'll be going out with my 25 cal "Mad Dog 1 Condor", we will see what she sees ;- )

Don't forget about the Escape UL... Same power as the Condor SS, but with an 18 inch barrel and much lighter. I have the .22 and the .25 barrels and they both shoot pellets and slugs well. Mine wears a Donny FL Tanto and can be dialed down to backyard friendly or dialed up to handle any small or medium sized game. Again, just another option...
