Tuning Airforce Condor with regulator shooting slugs.

Greetings to all:

I recently purchase an Airforce Condor .22 and been testing the waters with different types of projectiles. Pellets and or slugs, I opted for NSA .217 17.5gr slugs. I started out with 3000psi fill and maxed out the power wheel and was getting some extremely fast FPS out of the slugs and with the report to match. As I am learning this rifle I learned that I should lower the FPS of the slugs down to around 1000-900 FPS..

I purchased an Altaros regulator and installed it with the setting at 150 bar and bottle filled at 3000psi and power wheel maxed out was giving me some better results with around 15 good useable shot at around 1030FPS. I was somewhat please with the results so I degassed the bottle and reset the regulator pressure to 125 bar and fill the bottle back to 3000psi and started the test. WOW!!! what difference with the regulator set at 125 bar and bottle filled to 3000psi and power wheel maxed out was getting over 30 shot with an average of 985 - 969 FPS with an average of 999. I was so impressed with the results that I decided to leave it alone, my shot count increased as well as the accuracy all shot where within 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch at 25 yards as before they shot like a shot gun meaning all over the place

Just thought I would share my results as I consider these results a success especially for me.

Thanks for reading, now back to shooting.

Good information. I just bought a Condor .25 (my first PCP) and finally got it to the range on Sunday. Bottle filled to 2800 psi, power wheel set to 4, first shot was with a JSB Exact King 25.4gr, velocity was 1080. Shots were all over the place, tried 4 different pellets, Nielsen and FX slugs, different power wheel settings and I was frustrated. Velocity was inconsistent in each shot string and changes to the power wheel weren't making much difference.

After some research, I came to the same conclusion you did. Besides the regulator, did you upgrade anything else like a heavier hammer or high-flow valve? How do you de-pressurize the bottle?

Thanks.

Jml281... airforce line are designed for hunting...talon line plinking...escape n condor hunting..the twist rate 17.7 is more designed for the 25g and it will shoot great the 34g depending on what barrel you got..for better results..is better to use a eternal regulator you will be able to dial the exact regulated psi you need for different ammo weights.. on board regulator you have to dismantle the gun each time to make a change..making the tuning process to long...after been there n done that..I converted mine to bullet shooting only...externally regulated...and for any other use I have specific factory regulated pcp ...you will spend to much $$$ and soon realize tha you could have purchased a .25 cricket used with all that extra cash you invested in a gun that still worth $650..n almost no body want..a few months ago. 25 crickets were going from $850 to 950 ....me personally I like them I have 4 .. 2 texan and 2 talon ss buids..each build has more than $1600 .. in a gun I be lucky to get $600 ..

mercado, thanks for the information. I knew what I was getting into with the Condor but I didn't expect it to be as bad as my first experience shooting it. It did seem to shoot JSB 25.4gr pretty well at 50 yards. I need to try the NSA 33.5gr slugs I have to see how it does. I'll get it regulated and work on getting better consistency. Good enough for hunting is all I'm after with the Condor. As it is right now, I don't feel it's accurate enough for small game beyond 50 yards.

I knew from the start that the Airforce Condor would not be my only PCP, it just happened to be my first. I'll get the V3 regulator from PCP Tunes and see where that gets me.

As for my next PCP, it's probably going to be a Brocock Sniper XR Magnum.

This was my .22 short before I converted to .224 long v3 pretty consistent reg you will need 350cc bottle to have the same lop.. as the factory bottle.

If your valve is a factory condor rimlock valve..then that's is the best valve aviable for pellets n slugs .. no TT valve no other valve is better than the factory condor one...the new rimlock talon valve the inside diameter where the air passes through is a bit smaller than in the condor valve...as for the hammer since you are looking for a flatter shoot cout .. use the factory spring n factory hammer..if you like fps you are getting..upgraded the hammer to one piece hammer same weight as factory for better consistency..if fps are still slow..upgrade the hammer to no more than 95.grams .. and of course if you ever desired to go really heavy 50g+ then only a Doug noble valve..will do..
