about a year ago I bought the Talon P pistol 25 Cal. shortly thereafter i put it in a Mad Dog stock and added a scope. I have since bought an 18" 25 Cal Barrel which works out fantastic for a real heavy hitter, basically making it into an escape rifle. Is there any reason that a 17 caliber Barrel will not work out on the Talon.I have read something about too much power for the .177. I noticed that you cannot buy the talon p in .177
 
sounds like you're going down the path I went down. The talon p with the 18" barrel is really quite nice...


The TOPHAT and valve are only designed for 22 caliber and larger. What I read is that you get a dump of the entire tank if you try to use a .177 barrel. 


What I don't know is whether putting a narrower transfer port (like the valve cap set AF sells) would allow it to use .177 without dumping all of the air.

Do you noticed that the heavier the slug you put in there the harder it shoots?

There's a quirk about the way the Air Force valves are designed. When you shoot heavier projectiles the valve stays open longer and more air is dumped so you get the more power more noise and more air use when you put in heavier projectiles. And some pressure and hammer Spring settings I get almost the same speed out of a 40 grain slug that I get out of a 25 grain pellet. i was pretty confused on how that was possible until I realized more air was being consumed whenever I put heavy slugs in. 


As long as the projectile is in the barrel there's enough back pressure to keep the valve open. The heavy projectile accelerates more slowly so it spends more time in the barrel, and valve stays open longer. End up with much more energy
