Tuning AirForce Talon SS tank won’t fill

I got my Talon SS out after a year in the safe and the pressure had dropped from 3K to 2500. The gauge doesn’t seem to work right now and while filling with Hill Pump at about 2700psi it suddenly lost air and pressure down to 1000psi. Pressures were from the gauge on Hill Pump. Now the spin lock tank won’t take air beyond 1000 psi then it just leaks out. 


Any ideas or thoughts are appreciated. The tank is 3 years old and the Hill Pump is 1 year old.

That was previously unknown but I just did the rubber mallet tap on valve and starts to fill again. All the air is rapidly leaking from the fill valve. It’s hissing and no air is remaining in the tank. I pressed on the middle of the Gilberta valve to see if it was stuck from debris or something and it didn’t change the leaking.

Make sure the Tank is empty and remove the fill valve. It will either have trash in it or need an o-ring.

Rebuild while you have the tank empty.

The spin loc tank I have had a fill valve opposite of the gauge and that is where the air is leaking. Will rebuilding the valve under the tophat fix this as well?

Just degass, unscrew fill nipple, check threads, clean if necessary. Then screw it back in nice and tight maybe with a layer of Teflon tape and al should be good. You are sure it's the fill nipple? I don't think there's any need to mess with the valve unless you have some specific reason to.

Looks like the fill nipple has orange gunk keeping the plunger from sealing and the white washer visible in the picture was hard and broke. I wonder if I can order a new fill port from the factory or talon tunes.

Tony has very good male foster fittings. He has O ring kits for the valve and 90D O rings for the breach in the kit. There is a O ring under the brass piece in the picture that is a common leaker and I would replace it while you have the tank empty. I have three Condors and all of them needed those O rings and foster fittings fixed after a few years. Tony also has gauges that are dead on, not like the junk gauges that come with the guns.

clean the fill nipple o-ring seat really good, use a wire brush and some cleaner, 409, goof off, what ever, install a #06 O-ring on the shaft, silicone grease it and reinstall, teflon tape the threads and reinstall on the bottle valve.

I had to do it on my Texan, the urethane seal get hard and won't seal.....
