AirForce warrantee

I recently had to ship my brand new TalonP back to AirForce airguns because after the first 5 shots the safety locked up and after trying several fixes recommended by a tech at pyramid air I was able to get the safety to move but the gun would not fire and the customer service rep at PA recommended that I contact Airforce. Hindsight tells me I should have requested a return/replacement from PA right then but instead I sent the gun to AF for repair.
I sent the gun to AF and they put a "priority" on the ticket ... 3 months later almost to the day I got my gun back and it works just like new.
Longstory short-- I noticed while I was waiting, a couple of post on this site others have had similar long wait times for repairs and I decided to read the warrantee and I realized that if I had taken my gun apart to determine what had happened that the warrantee would have been void so all of the people on this site who have removed their safeties, replace their barrels, put on stocks, etc. replaced stronger/weaker trigger springs or any modifications to their guns even if it is done by tuners such as Talon Tunes or anyone except AirForce Airguns or their authorized repair shops (which do not exist in large parts of the US) voids the warrantee and the gun owner will have to pay for anything that AF has to repair. So much for their "lifetime warrantee". Just saying.

I have had my Talonp serviced by their service department. Excellent people there with outstanding customer care.


If you open up your airgun and mess around with it, causing it to malfunction, that is a YOU problem. Meaning that YOU will have to fix it or pay them to fix YOUR mistake. Nothing wrong with that policy. These guns are so simple you can fix anything on it though. Additionally you can build them piece by piece (if you want to order parts directly). They will take good care of you, just expect rational customer service policies. Their lead time is fast fyi.

I don’t fault their warranty conditions. Consumers come in all shapes and sizes when it comes to mechanical aptitude and ability. A few are talented, some are passably mechanically inclined and some are clumsy, inept and cause more problems than they ever solve.
There is no way for a manufacturer to control what an end user does to one of their guns other than to not warranty a gun once it has been modified.

Did the Talonp have a drop of any kind?
No, there was no damage on the package when I got it, I unpacked it charged the air tank, assembled the gun took 2 shots to make sure it worked, mounted the scope and was in the process of sighting in the scope. On the third shot the safety locked up. After I removed the pellet and I uncocked the gun the safety moved freely but when cocked it would not move of safe again. At no time was the gun dropped, thrown, dropkicked, or even looked at with murderous intensions. I was a machinist for 26 years , and have worked on cars for 50 some years o I am no dummy as far as assembly/disassembly and care for potentially delicate machinery but when I researched and saw how many interlocking pieces and springs and pins were involved in the trigger assembly that is when I decided to return it for repairs rather than dive in and screw something up.

Airforce guns not necessarily need to be dropped.. safety mechanism has had faulty parts for years .. something slightly mis machined or a little piece metal shaving could cause a malfunction especially in the second generation safety.. many reports on GTA of people having trouble with the safety giving problems so they change to manual safety.. I have 3 talon ss n 2 condor ss heavily modified..but I have not had a major problem with the safety only ones with a thick spring ..that the gun used to go of by disengaging the safety, but I have seen the longer hammer springs give me a better cycle than the thick n shoter springs .. those are hard on the mechanism.

I'll check that out on GTA. I am an AF fan per hunting and the Talon/Escape platforms are a blast. Anyway all is well that ends well.

I’m curious- if a place like Talon Tunes did a pre tune to it that required modification, does TT accept the fact that any future repairs that are warranty related should go to TT? I mean, before a gun gets modified, does TT notify the customer to let them know that once they begin the work, any warranty repairs sent in to AF will not be covered? How does that work?
 
Odd. Well glad they took care of it for you!
Air Force is just like any other manufacturer. Sometimes they get it wrong. During covid I ordered a part. It was taking weeks to get the part so I started complaining. The more I complained the less responsive they became. Eventually a member of management who will not be named saw to it that my emails started bouncing. I complained in this forum. That same member of management then saw to it that my posts were deleted and that I was chastised.

Sometimes You catch more flies with honey.

I have otherwise always had good service with Air Force. I like their guns I think the design is simple and reliable. Also think if I had handled the situation differently I might not have run into cross purposes with them.

I have never had cause to test their warranty or the warranty service and I never will. You can't break the damn thing and they're so simple a chimpanzee can tear them down and put them back together. That works out to reliability.

I understand the spirit of this - they can’t be on the hook for dealing with issues related to people messing with the guns. Bummer you had to wait though, and no compensation for your time - they should have sent you some pellets or something I feel like but what do I know. The good news is as has been said before, these guns have very few parts and everything is robust, easy to take out and replace, if in the process of tinkering you lose something or (somehow) manage to break some part of the gun. In fact, I would say that I cannot imagine a circumstance where I would need a warranty repair on the AF guns I have just because it would likely be fastest, easiest, and cheapest to just repair at home (other than a case like yours with messed up trigger on a new gun of course).
