Airgun guild forum?

Guys, help me out. I'm totally behind on my inter-forum beefs and gossip. I have two forum memberships (here and GTA) and that is more than enough to try and keep up with. Then I see that ANOTHER forum has been created?! Its one thing if the airgun user base was HUGE and things naturally spread out, but what I see is a LOT of the same people posting the same things across at least three different forums (not counting the new airgunguild forum!). This seems to point to a smaller user base split up due to beefs or politics. With GTA being really busy, and a bit dated in the structure and software, I can see how AGN would be created as a fresh general airgun forum (if that reasoning is correct).

Airgun guild, on the other hand, seems to have come out of left field. I can't figure out why it came to be, especially since the forum layout looks a lot like GTA and I see a lot of the core GTA posters there.

Edit: I almost forgot, Airgun guild also has the tagline of "The Airgun forum with no secrets"

I'm one of the guys that occasionally posts on any of the various forums you mentioned. I have found that each forum seems to have its own culture and audience..."different", not "better", seems to be the case. I have traded posts and made "friends" - as close as it gets on a forum - on each one.

The Airgun Guild was founded and is maintained by Travis Whitney, of Wicked Air Rifles fame. The tagline, "The airgun forum with no secrets" was the result of the vote on several submissions by early forum members. Several of these folks felt that they had been more heavily censored on other forums when it wasn't necessary on this topic or the other, and the "no secrets" motto expresses a desire for minimal moderation.

Right now AG has a majority userbase of folks you probably already know, and is generally pretty informal and a bit irreverent. There is an effort to bring in some regular contributors to post "feature pieces" of sorts which is something you don't see much on other sites.

I suppose it's like any internet community, you just have to get your feet wet a bit and see if it's a place you like to swim. I tend to participate in multiple forums because most of you have been around airguns much longer than I have, and I still have a lot to learn. And because I spend more than my fair share of time in hotel rooms where I only get to talk/read/post about fun stuff like airguns, not actually participate.

It only makes sense as the internet grows and grows for companies to have direct access to their customer base. This builds excitement for the products they offer through discussion. I'm very surprised Hatsan has no official forum yet as they sell a lot of product. Some forums are more neutral in that they don't really represent any company and other forums are pretty heavily invested in one or a few companies. To that extent when Benjamin is paying the bills for a forum why should they tolerate people coming on their forum and a) criticizing their product and b) promoting a competitor? So, other forums will pop up but the smaller the niche company/product probably the smaller the group and participation. GTA is very broad and is not beholden to any product so it's got a massive appeal.

I personally think its good to have diversity and another forum thats put together well is a plus to the airgun community. Also various forums have different rules and one may not be able to get answers in one forum but can in another. I just checked it out and it looks like a fun crowd, its a good thing for us who wander around the internet going from site to site IMHO. Tim
