The criteria for checking the sound level of a rifle, with or without a moderator/suppressor, is one meter from the muzzle at a right angle to the muzzle in a free air environment, and several feet above the ground. You have to use a standardized and consistent method of measurement in order to compare different combinations. Otherwise, comparative measurements are not consistent and really are of little value in comparison.
