Airgun PRS gear recommendations

Hi All,

I am a seasoned centerfire PRS competitor and am looking to compete in some regional 22 matches this year. I have a Panthera getting delivered tomorrow with some additional upgrades. I have all my bags, dope card holder, kestrel, rangefinder binos, etc already. Are there any recommendations for additional gear that I would need to compete in 22 PRS? I know I'll at least need a spare magazine. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,
Erik

Hey Erik,
First thing that comes to mind is to pick up a chamber flag/block for your panthera or print one if you haven't already,
most of the rimfire chamber flags I've tried wont fit in the short breech slot of PCP's.

Then of course you'll need an appropriately sized air tank for however many rounds you plan to shoot per match,
my local clubs do a combination NRL22 match in the morning followed by a PRS rimfire match after so I made sure I sized my tank to be able to have enough air for both matches ~135 shots plus sight-in. I've found PCP's generate quite a lot of interest amongst the rimfire crowd so I always plan on having extra air and ammo to be able to let people try the rifle out after.

The other thing that comes to mind that you might not have dealt with from the centerfire side is if you are running a can on your PCP the stage timers will probably struggle to pick it up. May be worth if you have your own timer playing with it if you can adjust the sensitivity and seeing if you can get it set to pickup your rifle while not getting everything on the range. I'm planning to play with this with my shooters global timer, I know it can easily be set sensitive enough to pick up my rifle but haven't tested how it will interact with other rifles on the range in the back ground at the same time.
Or you can just run a muzzle break, it does settle the rifle noticeably when shooting rimfire power levels from a pcp but it also makes for a sharp snap that might require ear pro.

I shot my first PRS rimfire match this weekend using a daystate ranger .25 extreme. I use griffin slugs that are 45grains, bucks the wind well. You should have a large wheel on the parallax to speed dial quickly, I found that I timed out on most stages. Scope mag should max at 24x and be ffp, you can not find the targets quick enough otherwise. You need to call to the spotters too, they may not know the target your on and won't see "light hits", I'm not going use a moderator either, it is hard to put between the ladder and when shooting through like large pipes. Lastly, rice bags are king, I dragged around a sand bag which was hard to throw up on the barricades.you will need a tripod too so the gun can rest pointed down range, the gun racks weren't fit for airguns. Having your scope setup where you see the slug travel downrange is great too, you can make a good recovery on the second shot for windage and altitude.

Thank you for the reply. I knew there may be differences between centerline and airgunning. I appreciate the input and suggestions.

Hey Farmerjoe,

I have the means to print a chamber flag, but can't find a STL file for a Panthera. I was going to see how it shot first before in stalled a brake. If you know of a 3D print file for the chamber flag, that would be appreciated. Ty
I only have the very basic one I drew up for my DRS and if I'm not mistaken the panthera has a different width breech slot? But your welcome to the STL if I'm wrong.

I'm a rookie, setup solid foundation, single shot bolt action makes it harsh to get through the stages in 2 minutes., I'm working on changing that.
Going switch to an air wolf .25, loose the moderator, setup bipods and even put up a Burris eliminator 6 scope (I use a heritage rail now)

There was another guy, shot high in fx he knew the drills and navigated better. Key is to acquire and fire quickly, run the gun. He is seasoned in all that, competes well

I just hunt, so this is like voodoo science for me
