Airgun vs 16 GA steel

I think the metal of the electrical box I use as a pellet trap is 16 gauge. It is filled with rubber mulch but the depth is less than 3 inches. My 25 calibers (45-50 fpe) shoot through the mulch at the top and dent the back but are not close to going through. That seems consistent with this - 16 gauge will stop most airguns but can get pretty dented.

Reactions: Lead head
The results may differ if the metal were stable and immovable as the movement takes away some of the energy from the projectile.

I know 🤦🏻‍♂️, you are right , I realized that half way of this test but it was already too late and I wanted to keep it fair for the rest of the calibers that I was going to shoot but the lesson been learned for the next test

Thanks for watching ! Before this test I was thinking my .25 cal challenger pro w heavier spring and power on max will penetrate the 16 ga steel , but absolutely no chance . I made another you tube video about frying pan penetration test with exact Same rifles and .25 call put hole on 2 frying pan and almost came out of the 3rd one , but in this test 16 ga steel was too tough for them except the 9 mm

My "tuning box" I use a 1/4" tempered 12"x12" steel plate, I built a box around it with 2x4's, and about 2" of electrical duct seal putty in front of it (worn out on spots).
After two years of using it (for .25 cal tuning only) let say several hundred shots only, I can see the steel plate back side showing the suffering.
I remember couple years ago my first backstop was made from a spare traffic sign plate, shooting it in a same spot (basement sports) with a .22 didn't lasted long.

Great idea using rubber mulch
