How about a hint of age

Age? for who, those that can participate, or those who are shooting?

If you have time and are available, c'mon out. Doesn't matter how old you are.

For those of us that are shooting, we are all retired. Guessing from late 50's (lucky ones) to late 70's.....and that is only a guess.

Yes, I do remember pot bellied stoves in the old corner store near my grandparents home when I was a kid.

Do you shoot in the Feb - Mar time frame? We are snow birds and are in the Az area then. 71 here

Just on a whim we thought to provide something for the retired folks that we have here in AZ. The April/May time frame is our first venture at trying this. It is a bit lower key and more relaxing during the week when we all have more time.

Once we finish this time frame, we will give it some thought for other times of the year.

Thanks for asking.

I might like to come out and watch your competition some Tuesday just to learn about Field Target. I am new to airguns, own a 22 Marauder and think I understand it is not be suitable for FT? I am pretty sure I meet the old fart requirement though.

You are more than welcome to come out to watch and/or participate. A .22 Marauder is not out of line to start with so long as it is shooting at 20 fpe or less. AAFTA has that as an upper limit in order to minimize target damage. Folks have used .22 caliber in the past. It will pass through a 3/8 diameter KZ hole.

C'mon out and give it a try. During the week it is a fun time and low/no pressure. A good way to learn.

OK, here's the deal.

These guys are a pack of old farts, in the best way. I learned a bunch just watching the preparation. I'd say I was the guy who needed to learn the discipline. At 68, I'm not sure I can keep up. On the other hand, I think I can keep up in real field shooting, meaning live (living) targets. This was not the place for that.

I brought a gun that was too big for the shoot, but, we helped set targets and watched the "competition". Much fun.

This discipline is tough and requires real shooting skills. NOT bench rest. These boys can shoot!

Try it, you might like it. I'll be back with a qualified gun.

And yes, I'm an old fart!

"Aim right"

I almost always have a second .177 that actually won 2017 state title. So if you or anyone wants to give FT a try either weekly old farts or monthly match. I have actually been beat before with my own gun on a shoot-off by a lady. This is what gun did look like

now it has a Wolverine 2 Stock on it and is my dairy gun, the gun has over 100k rounds and still is a laser. I always carry a backup and it is the best anyone could ask for. So come shoot no excuses now. Look forward to seeing you.

Thanks Mark, yes I would need to purchase a chronograph to tune it down as I have not tinkered with it yet and believe it is probably close to 30 fpe from the factory. I will try to get out to one of your May meets just to observe and learn. Hope to meet you in a few weeks!

Scott

Scott, we can bring a chronograph along and possibly assist you with your gun. Or let us know when you are coming out and we will bring along a spare.

Thanks Del. You only have me by ONE year. That is no big deal. Glad that you and Ted were able to join us and hopefully you had some fun. You guys are welcome anytime you are in the area. If you want, you are welcome to join us this Saturday up in Camp Verde and meet the rest of the crew for our monthly match. Just let me know.

Best,

Mark
