AirMaks Arms AirMaks KATRAN X HP .25 First Shots

Since the weather is perfect here today, about 70° in contrast to the 95 to 100 a week ago and a light breeze, after I finished up with the maiden voyage of the FX Crown Saber Tactical.30 I posted earlier today I popped a test scope (6-24, $49.50 at Amazon) onto the newly arrived Katran X HP .25 700mm barrel for the function test I do on any newly-arrived, rifle or pistol. (Did it survive shipment in one piece? Is everything working on it? Since I put air in it the day before is there an air leak?)

After I loaded the magazines and screwed on the Dony FL moderator (the standard moderator that comes on gun is okay but if you want to keep your close by neighbors friendly it needs help) the resulting configuration is just a bit longer than virtually anything else in my collection. (You old folks out there like me will understand why my wife called it the “John Holmes model.“). Once it was unfolded, and the folding stock locks into place quite rigidly, it turned out to be surprisingly light and maneuverable despite its extreme length . The gun is very well constructed with a good overall finish and feel. The controls click into place and function smoothly.

I took it outside and plopped it onto the rest that was sitting out on the table after I shot the Crown. Since I was not planning on shooting it any distance, I had to prop up the rear of the rest to get it on a target on a target stand about 30 to 40 yards away and got ready to pop off the first round. The lever functioned very smoothly, and I was ready to go. I had very roughly aligned the scope against the wall target inside, so I really expected it to hit the target more or less at random.

The first aimed round (after the two I banged off just to make sure it would shoot and not bothering to even look into the scope) was surprisingly close to the center. I made a few adjustments and the picture below shows what I got shooting the first magazine! Dumb luck? Perhaps, but consistent with my other Katran S/C pistol/carbine .22. And I was shooting range fodder so I was truly impressed.

I am definitely an Airmaks fan!

Beautiful set up. I am interested in the Katran. Have you had any issues since you first posted?
I have the Katran LB .22, it’s a great shooting gun and feels good. Easily capable of 50+ fpe with the jsb monster 25.4 pellets. Very smooth action and great trigger. I wouldn’t hesitate to get one of you are in the market
