AirMaks Arms AirMaks KRAiT Standard .22 vs FX Panthera Hunter Compact .22

Does anyone own both? I own the FX Panthera Hunter Compact. With a moderator, the PHC comes in at 36". Just seeing if I can find something shorter. Do they produce the same power? I am suspecting the Krait will be a bit more efficient due to the longer barrel. Has anyone been able to make the Krait standard .22 shoot slugs? Pros/Cons on the Krait? I will be using them for small game and pesting.

That being said, another option is the Leshiy 2 in .22 for light and compactness.

Here is another one to ponder as it is shorter but on the heavy side...a new to me Taipan Vet 2 550mm .22 @ just under 32" but 8.2lbs without scope. Same CZUB barrel as the Krait I believe.

Since @Ranchibi, showed a different, viable direction. And you state that you simply want to use it for small game hunting and pesting? And it seems that you are valuing a compact form factor. Why not consider a Pathfinder XR? 25 FPE in .22 and capable of more power. But more importantly it is very compact… 25 1/2 inches without moderator, 30 inches with moderator, both with stock fully retracted. With stock fully extended 28” without moderator, 32 1/2” with moderator. And and can also fold the stock for an even smaller, packable platform… A picture of my sweetie and she is a capable beastie…

I thought about it but 8lbs without the scope is going to be a heavy woods walker... lol. If it wasn't for the 8lbs, I would have picked one up. By chance is that @Dairyboy Vet 2 tact that he sold?

What's the max fpe? I am also wanting to shoot heavier pellets/slugs and I'm not sure of the Pathfinder has enough umph to do so. I have been searching... another gun that I am considering is the KalibrGun Cricket II tact 45 in .22. But the gun is on the heavier side coming at 7.5lbs, OAL 26.8". I think the Krait is 6.5lbs, OAL 24". The Krait is still #1 on the list.

Hi: 794 Low: 782 Avg: 788Std: 4.94 ES: 12 FPE: 24.8

You can tune it to a higher FPE if you like, at the expense of shot count and harmonics…

I actually own both. The Krait standard is .177 and the PHC is .25 so they have different uses. I like them both. The Krait is one of the best woods walking gun I have. I also have a Cricket 2 Tactical 45 but is on the heavy side but accurate and a great shot count. You can’t go wrong with any of them.

Yes, it is Dairyboys that I purchased! And you are correct, they are heavy and built like a tank. Mine is a little over 10lbs scoped so it is on the heavy side. It will make a great woods walker if you can get by the weight because the barrel screws into the receiver like the older ones and the LDC tensions the barrel also and the second shroud right behind the barrel helps immensely with rigidity that has 4 large set screws connecting it to the breech I think that makes it heavy but the barrel is so rigid. But, yeah, it's a beast and this is the 550mm version! I like this gun as much as my RAW 👍.

That’s a heavy woods walker. Lol. I really thought about it… ended up not buying it. I think if it was a pound lighter I would buy it. i assume the weight is balanced well?

Ah. I'm excited for the Krait. Someone just needs to post theirs up in .22. Lol. You have all the guns I want to try minus the PHC Since I have one. 🥲

The only other gun that is an outstanding walking hunter is my Western Sidewinder S in .25 caliber! I have one of the new Oneleaf MARS 1000 thermal scopes on it and it is my prime trash panda gun! I put an STO Sarrissa silencer on it as the 0db just wasn't quiet enough and it is now silent. And full auto on occasion is very fun! I have to admit that between it and my .25 K1, hunting with a semi-auto is fantastic for the follow up shots.

Nice. I think the Krait will be a good option for now. Maybe down the road I'll get a sidewinder. That's still on my bucket list.

VERY...different guns..!!

I know little about the Panthera.
I own a Krait compact and a Krait Lite compact. Would trade them for...nothing !

Of what I know about the Panthera, I'd pick the Krait (any length), every time.

Mike
That is good to know. I think I prefer the bullpup design just because it helps with the compactness of an air gun.

One magazine. They make a nice magazine holder also. I have some CARM magazines and they work fine. I put the wooden stock on one of mine and really like it but have the 2nd in the tactical style.
I'll have to check mine, but...if the breach seal is on the pellet probe, vs. in the barrel...You NEED to watch out how smooth the inner surfaces of the 3D magazines are printed.
IF...they look like a thread, (most to), then I'd be REALLY careful about using a 3D magazine. Every time you cock the gun, the probe slides back and forth through those rough surfaces.
To my way of thinking...NOT a good idea.

If the seal is in the barrel...then, no problem with a 3D magazine.

I have two different brands of 3D magazines for one of my guns..."sitting" on the shelf. I was told by one of the makers, that the inner surfaces were smooth !! Like I said, it's sitting on the shelf.
