AirMarksman Impact M4 "Copper" Backbone - An Honest Review - It's Disappointing - UPDATE 11/15/24

They're either just covering their tails, or referring to very *tiny* differences that most people wouldn't even be able to discern. A good anodizing shop can match a color to well within what you can readily see. Look at all the anodized commerical products from big brands - those brands demand a very specific color ( and frequently "off" colors are flags for counterfeits ). No competent shop is going to produce the degree of variation shown above.

If you contact a company like Arc Anodizing. (1 of the very best in the business) they will tell you they will NOT guarantee a color match. Although he is usually good at color matching... he still won't guarantee it.

In the past an American paintball company (Freeflow) started having their gun bodies made in China. The aluminum was softer than ours and the bodies had a lot of issues with screws holes stripping out. If you are using 2 different grades of aluminum, they will take the color differently. They will almost never be a perfect match.

You should see Danish B&O ( audio and TV products ) and their surface treatment DPT ( Anodizing )
Now i have worked with something like this stuff ( chrome plating and E Zink plating ) , but i must say on a whole other level than B&O do it. ( Anodizing )
Actually at B&O and even just a GD remote, if it is touched by a hand during production it is most likely scrapped, their tolerances are off the chart.
Probably also why they do stuff for a range of other high end brands too.

I have tried several times to get a job at Terma here ( aerospace ASO company ) CUZ they too work with the tightest of tolerances and i like to do a kick ass job.
But alas they will not take me in,,,,,, their loss though, and it is too late now as i am no longer working.

Drawing on my educations in other kind of surface treatment ( paint ) there is a whole range of white, and even if you use the very same batch of paint ( wet or powder ) well if you bake it different the result will be different too.

Yellow powder paint is funny, when it come out of the oven at 200 deg C, it is orange, and for the love of god, dont skimp on the yellow pour on as much as you can.

In paint aside for the prep work, layer thickness is #1, mind you you can not make it too thin, but thicker is most often fine that will just cost you on the paint account.
So keeping track of layer thickness on a 3 layer system, well you cant be totally inept with numbers in their simplest form ( + / - )

Years ago when I was assisting the design of the wildcat mk2 power plenum with Huma, they decided to design one thst fit inside the airtube, pushing the factory reg placement further forward to create the plenum. When I asked why thru didn’t design a short air tube to add onto the main air tube it was because of this reason- matching the anodizing on the factory air tube. Huub at Huma worded it “there are many airgunners particular about color match and he didn’t want to have to deal with the chance the anodized coating wouldn’t match up

+ Your right.I used to help with anodizing ,Many tanks are used.it is also the "gain of the metal can be different. The point is that the color is Not Copper,So anyone wanting copper would have the personality for it.;Copper. He got Bronze color, which is more subdued .This should tell posters something about him.LOL He ordered Sunnyside up eggs and got scrambled,he is right, also he has a strong personality.Relax, all is good when you get what you want.

This reminds me an incident that occurred long ago...

I'd been instructed by the boss to bring the 'gray' shelving located in the yard into the warehouse. I looked and looked. No 'gray' shelving in the yard. But there was a light green set sitting right there. Eventually I asked the boss if he was partially color blind. He got pissed and said yes, he was and how the heck did I know to ask that? I knew because my dad has the same condition. When color is involved, confusion can occur because we don't all see things the same way.

All that said, I admire the OP here's willingness to share the fruits his emotional fragility. Were it mine, I'd rattle-can it the color I wanted.

Cheers,

J~
