Airwolf mct .22 probe seems off centre

Hi all

Having other fine airguns my wolf hasn't been used recently. Winter months bench resting at my GC am using the wolf again. It is firing like a shotgun, two or three very accurate shots then 12 bore again. Carefully testing the breech O ring, piece of tissue over probe area, yes it moves a little , doesn't blow the paper off just an uplift. Q is this sign of a poor O ring seal? Second , carefully looking at probe action with no mag inserted moving gackwards and forwards, seems offset to the the left almost missing hole but then lines up as larger part of probe enters the breech. Trying same test with single shot tray inserted, probe seems less left biased but not perfectly central. Actioning bolt forwards one can see probe followong line of the tray and entering breech almost perfectly. Q is probe alignment incorrect? Gun has only fired 800 shots since new 2 years ago. When a pellet is placed on the tray the foremost part of the probe is nearly touching outer left hand edge of same.

Any owners experienced this issue?

I would suggest replacing the pellet probe o-ring with a new one considering your rifle is 2 years old and you have shot 750 pellets to date. I replace my o-ring every 750 shots on my Air Wolf and it always seems to make an improvement with a reduction in sound and higer shot count. You will need a Buna-N -004 A90 o-ring for your .22 Air Wolf. You can order a pack of 100 for $2.27 from McMaster-Carr (http://www.mcmaster.com/#5308t113/=10qqpyc). I suggest picking up some silicone lube as well to keep the o-ring from getting hard and brittle. I apply some to the o-ring every time I'm finished shooting my rifle.

It sounds like the probe may be out of alignment which would result in the pellet being pushed in to the chamber slightly off axis. This could potentially reduce accuracy and or consistency. Your pellet probe should always contact the pellet right in the very center of the pellet skirt opening. You can do s simple test and try pushing the pellet in with your thumb fist so the skirt is perfectly flush with the opening or the breach. Then slowly push the pellet the rest of the way in slowly with your probe. Take a few shots and see if this improves the accuracy. If it does, then the culprit is most likely your pellet probe. If this is the case, you basically have two options:
  1. Send the rifle in to have the probe adjusted or replaced (RECOMMENDED OPTION)
  2. Take the breach apart to inspect to remove the probe for closer inspection. I don’t recommend this as doing so could void your warranty plus it is not that easy to do.(NOT RECOMMENDED)

Hi

OK have now tried inserting single pellet using tray not magazine. Big difference . Tried bench resting both ends on cheap plastic rest, better than expensive iron front and sand bag rear. Think the main difference though is the hold. Using magazine all over the place. Tray much better, less than an inch group at 50 yards, outside little breeze. Tested with just touching the air reservoir and just touching the fore end of the wooden stock. An improvement down to half inch group at 50 yards with tray. JSB 15.9 low power. Back to Magazine , a 12 bore again.
So ordered some probe o rings , free of charge from Daystate, but postage charged for. The factory say duro 70 not 90 . Will test again when o ring replaced, will lube regularly afterwards.
Will return to my local dealer ( live in France) afterwards for probe re alignment or change. Seems to prove to me the problem is the probe.

I guess harmonics affect accuracy more than I believed possible.

Yes the slightly soft seals will seal better as the literally blow up a bit instantly when hit with the blast.
You say the singe tray is good grouping and the mag shoots , well not so well, naturally if under warranty and convenient have a dealer make you happy but could a person make a shim , just a tube/cylinder of nylon/other ( a west coast tuner used to shim with beer cans , ohya) just inside the receiver ( rear of pellet loading area) to center the probe? Have you , can you inspect the bolt to ascertain is is indeed true and straight?
Is it just the front mag hole pushing it over? Open that up?

Thanks for the input. On a long holiday until mid March therefore unable to proceed further. Will come back though. 
Convinced it is the probe out of alignment and upon return will install new breach O ring and test.
E mailed the factory suggestion in addition to O ring replacement was to check the bolt/probe tension. Apparently important. Will pursue with. Factory this area further, which bolts and what pressure etc etc. Further they suggested could be magazines. In which case I will return both. Not under warranty anymore, expired six weeks before. I fail to see why magazines could put probe out of alignment, they are only in gun when in use. Bad safety otherwise.
Suspect the gun will have to be returned to my French dealer having ascertained they are competent first. Cannot find any detailed drawings of probe/bolt and housing . Nothing apparent on their website. Housing may well have anti tamper fastenings as well.

All my testing has been at 50 metres ie 55 yards appx.. Several shots with touching holes then boom 1 inch off then to the left right up or down. As I posted earlier a good 12 bore pattern.
Am sure will be sorted sometime.
