Tuning Akela wandering POI/accuracy issues

Hi, All,

I've had this Akela for a while. It will sometimes group nicely and then it'll start spraying pellets. I pulled the end cap off and there's a gray streak that looks like clipping. Has anyone else had this issue, and what should I do to fix it? Next thing I will try is shooting it without the shroud, but if anyone has already figured this out I'm all ears!

Thanks,

John

I have no experience with that rifle, but if the chrono shows no radical velocity variation, and the scope checks out okay, I'd remove the barrel and clean thoroughly with a rod and brush, maybe polish with JB also. In the process, you can verify that all the barrel and shroud attachments are secure. The gray streak you see is probably from a hanger in the finishing process. If clipping, I would expect no good groups, and some pretty significant flyers. I've had rifles demonstrate accuracy issues that did not obviously appear barrel related, but actually were, and a good cleaning resolved it. Good luck.

My Kratos would group great at 50 yards then it would shoot random fliers always 1.5" low. I finally inspected closely with my bore scope and there was a build up of lead in the choke area. With out the bore scope I would have never noticed it. A bronze brush and bore cleaner solved the problem. I did follow up with JB bore cleaner on the bore with extra attention to the choke area.

I have to admit these Kral/Benjamin barrels are some rough looking rifling but shoot pretty decent. Over all I think they are pretty nice guns for the money.

Clipping is usually a constant. I would scrub the barrel and check the crown for imperfections. A jacked up crown or if the rifling just inside the bore is damaged can cause more clipping as the gun gets dirty. Then I would do my tape method and see where the pellet is existing the end cap.
