Western Airguns All Things Western Rattler 357 & 45 - Master Thread

Here's the Chairgun App ballistics chart for the 45 shooting modified NSA 350 grain rebated boat tail slugs, with the tail cut/shortened down to fit the magazine and weighing 336 grains. The slug dug out of the sand at 175 yards, carrying 355 pfe. Pretty good expansion at that distance.

@Airgun-hobbyist what is the weight saving with that setup? Sorry if I missed the info.
Felt swing weight and balance weight at the shoulder is considerably less. Hefting the removed parts versus new, probably a pound so far. I didn't weight everything yet as I am not quite done stripping weight. There's another pound that can be removed up top going to the light weight lpvo and lowering it's center of gravity.

Over 500 flawless rounds through the Rattler 45 so far. This was today's first dozen shots after a cleaning and polishing experiment. I'm glad that it wasn't an expensive experiment. What I did find was this particular barrel tightened up the groups with some TLC. I was hoping that it would be a set it and forget it barrel, and we will see after these next 500 rounds.

The first six are the bottom group at 111 yards, then a couple click adjustment for the top group. Wind started swirling and gusting to 10 mph.

Hey guys, I have a question about the bottle valve for the rattler. Mine leaks air from the space between the valve and where it attaches to the threaded male section. My question is, am I missing an oring?

Here’s what the inside of the valve looks like

Am I missing a seal or o ring somewhere?

Basically, is this exactly what it looks like when you remove your bottle as well?

Thank you in advance!

When will we see a 36 inch, 1:16 twist rate shrouded barrel kit for the .357 rattler. Call it the Long Strike kit, I don't give a damn. Just give us a longer more accurate and powerful reach. Is that too much to ask for?
Longer barrel is better for power, for sure. However, a fast 16:1 twist rate will probably not group well at all, even with a long slug. For a 1" long slug the fastest twist with good stability factor is only appoaching 20:1. The tried and tested 26:1 twist rate is ideal for almost all 357 caliber slug variants except for the longest with the most rifing engagement. Those long slugs will be slow and loping to the target.

Play around with this twist rate calculator.

It looks like the oring-to-valve seal is leaking, not missing. You need to degass the bottle and then remove the valve and replace the o-rings.

I did a really poor job explaining it. The leak is not between the bottle and valve, it’s between the valve and gun. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing an oring somewhere. Thank you for responding so quickly!

Yes, I they do seal between the bottle and nipple on the gun on that rough looking o-ring in that top picture. I'd look at the nipple on the gun too. It might need a bit of polishing on the sharp corner if it's making an o-ring that rough on just a single assembly pass or two.

@Airgun-hobbyist Okay, so I looked again and what I noticed is there’s two places where an o ring could fit. I drew this diagram to help. It’s a cross section and the red is where there’s currently an o ring which is like f’ckin impossible to get to(I have some nice channellock picks and it’s still impossible). But there’s a space that I marked in blue between the threads and then ‘shelf’ which looks like it could hold an o ring but I’m not sure it should.
