Almost First Rifle

I posted a while back on getting a Benjamin prowler. I couldn’t get it to shoot decent and I’m just not patient. It might have been a great gun but I didn’t have the time to mess with it. So I asked for advice on here and took some of it to the store. I ended up with an RWS 34 and I have to tell you the thing is awesome. Not the quietest gun I’ve ever shot but it seems really accurate out of the box. I whipped down the barrel and started putting some super cheap ammo I had through it to get it broken in.

So far I have close to 300 rounds through it. I’m using some cheap Swiss arms bulk ammo. Again, not trying for accuracy yet, just trying to get some lead through it to break it in. I have not put the scope on yet so at 20 yards with open sights and shooting off my deck rail I have put pretty much all of my pellets in a spot the size of a credit card. I have had a few flyers, (maybe 5-6) maybe it’s my bad hold or maybe it’s the poor quality ammo. Might not sound terribly impressive but I have no experience shooting pellet guns and the ammo I’m using looks like lead fishing sinkers they are so unuiform. It’s not near as hold sensitive as the benjamin I had before.

Im looking forward to getting this thing broken in and getting some more quality pellets. I think it’s going to be a real squirrel killer. If anyone is looking for a simple inexpensive way to get into pellet guns this one gets my vote.

leadballs, you just got yourself a really good air rifle. I have an RWS 34 and can vouch for it's accuracy. I started out with the open sights as well and think that they are actually very good. I could shoot pretty accurately with them. I later mounted a small 4x32 scope on it. A small scope, but made a big difference. My eyes aren't quite as sharp as they once were, so the scope contributed to much better accuracy at longer distance. And yes...it'll do the job on squirrels just fine. Just practice and get proficient with it. Shot placement will be important when taking small game. Did you get it in .22 or .177? Enjoy and have fun......dang good rifle!
