I did turn on the illumination feature and still was not comfortable. I will just have to see what happens with the Vortex. At the time of placing the order I had only read and seen positive reviews. Just my luck. Thanks for the heads up on potential problems. If it turns sour I'll certainly post my review on here.

Wonder how many folks got Athlon and Hawke phone numbers on speed dial?

Must really hurt to have to send back a $400-$500 scope back when the scope supposed to last not too bad is it was $176 or $229 IMHO but certainly not a $400-$500 let alone $800 scope thats just crazy!

I would rather not hear how great their warranty and customer service departments are that seriously proves so many failures and the mark up on cheaply made scopes for them to not repair them and just toss them in the trash like that and send you brand new ones so easily makes you really wonder. Scopes not even worth fixing and not even send you back the same scope? Or like Hawke no more warranty after they refurbish them really makes you wonder about that company as well. As if they expect them to fail and not want to warranty them again. 2B4U warranty! You see how high the Hawke prices are? so maybe keep this in mind? I can be easy going and forgiving on failure if they cost $200 at this price it shouldn't hurt as much.
