Altaros Booster Question

I usually run my booster for 40 minutes or so, and then rest them for 20 minutes and repeat until tank full. But now I have a 15 Gallon Shop Compressor and the booster runs for an extended period of time before the compressor fires up again. So my question is: How long should I run the Altaros itself non-stop? This run is taking me a while because I had to start from zero. Thanks!

I let it run for 2 hours and I stop only to rest my shop compressor. If you do not run the booster at full speed I do not see any way of damaging the booster even after few hours of operation. I do it this way since 8 months now and everything is ok until now.

Yes, it does. Thanks. My shop compressor runs only a few minutes, then builds enough volume to run the Altaros a good while before it starts up again.

You can run it for as long as you like. It has a very efficient cooling method integrated into its design. If your drive compressor is idle for more than 40% of the time, you can turn the booster up with the little tap on the line coming out of the first water separator.This should reduce your fill time considerably. It won't hurt the booster to run it as fast as possible. It is, however, a bit punishing on the drive pump to run more than about 60% on to 40% off cycle time.

I knew about the 40/60, I think I'm good, but will run it tomorrow, Time it and tweak it, the 15 Gal compressor is relatively new to the setup. Thanks for the tips, very much appreciate it.

Do NOT run for 12 hours straight if your compressor does not have adequate water traps. I did and completely flooded the Altaros. Water was spraying from the exhaust ports. Luckily I was going bottle to bottle so the water did not get into my tanks.

Damn! That sucks. No, I never really go that long, and always check on it every 45 minutes or so. I also have 3 low end water separators b/w the DeWalt and the Altaros.

The instructions say that is normal for water to pool in the bottom of the box. The air that is coming out of the exhaust ports is on a different circuit than the air that runs through the desiccant and is compressed for your bottle. That being said, it is always a good idea to remove as much moisture as possible before it enters the booster. I have filled a 6.8-litre tank from empty taking over 12 hours each time before I had a high side filter, twice and not seen any noticeable moisture in my bottle. I have just replaced the high-pressure piston seal after about 60 hours of work after the unit stopped building pressure. I contacted Altaros and they sent me a couple of new seals free of charge. It is probably a good idea to periodically disassemble and grease this part to avoid it wearing prematurely. It is not a difficult job and there are videos explaining how to.
