Brocock/BRK An actual..."carbine", NOT, a shoulder stocked pistol

Yep, the whole time I've been following this thread, I am reminded of my father's gun collection. He had three Winchester saddle carbines, a 32-20, a 38-40, and a 44-40, with matching caliber Colt(?) revolvers.
I had a 44 combo for a while. 9" raging bull and a rossi 20" lever 1892 model.

Now I'm down to 357 instead. I figured it didn't NEED a revolver that can kill a Grizz since I doubt I'll ever be in their backyard.

If I can afford a hiking trip in their territory, I can afford another big revolver lol.

So far, just doing well with the same ol JSB 18.1 pellets, accuracy wise. Though I have not checked the speed with the new pistol length barrel yet. Maybe today or tomorrow.
Right now the adjuster is on the second from the top position. That was a good position with the original 17" length. 800+fps., this is what I set most of my guns to if they are capable.

If the speed is too far below that, I'll give the lighter pellets a try.

Mike,

I am highly interested in the actual power potential of extra short barrels — so, I really appreciate if you can match L.Leon's power settings with your own power or velocity numbers in his post #29 above. 👍🏼

For what it's worth arguing about what word to call what gun.... 😵‍💫
Let's move from English to Spanish and things just got more complicated..... 😆

Here in Peru, all airguns that are not airgun pistols are called "carbines" [Spa: carabinas], including long rifles, short rifles, semi-bullpups, bullpups, you name it — all "carbines"!!
🤦🏻‍♂️

🔶 The most useful naming distinction — in my mind — would be one that defines
➊ those characteristics of the gun that affect performance (performance definition) —
rather than
➋ what the original state of the gun was (historical definition).

For example:

➊ Performance Definition:
Name definition using the gun's characteristics that affect performance:

▪ Barrel length: It seems like a distinction could be made between carbine (short rifle) and rifle (or long gun). Maybe at 500mm (20")?

▪ Excess stock length [any non-bullpup has a lot of that]: The current distinction between rifle and bullpup is helpful, and there are compact bullpups and regular bullpups and semi-bullpups (the latter are still in search of their true identity).

▪ Pistols: It seems like a distinction could be made here between long pistol (e.g., PRod) and short pistol (e.g., GK1), or bench pistol and handgun.

➋ Historical Definition:
Name definition based on what the gun originally was before the modification:
▪ a pistol that received a shoulder stock ➔ I would prefer to call that a rifle (or carbine)
▪ a long rifle where the shoulder stock was cut off ➔ I would prefer to call that a "pistol"

Just my 2 cents — but after adjusting them for the inflation rate we have in Peru, I'm not sure what it's worth.... 😉

Sorry I haven't kept up and read all of the replies from everyone.

But yes, thank you for the (mostly) positive replies.

It was a fun project. I actually hope to find a second stock. I'd like to extend the factory stock so that the cutout (radius) for the air cylinder is MUCH closer to the curve of the cylinder. Don't know why they did the shape, then moved it so far away from the cylinder .
I've got some very strong epoxy that should do well in holding everything in place.

Nice! You'd think at 50 yards the pellet would have lost too much velocity for an ethical kill. I guess not. But I want something at least 30 FPE.
The CPHPs @ 725 FPS generate 17 FPE @ the muzzle… At 50 yards its still generating 8.5 FPE, plenty for ethical small pests kills… 🙏

The small pests don’t seem to mind and find the FPE at POI? Simply irresistible. Many, many kills out to 50+ yards…🙏
You've inspired me to go the other direction myself. I'm using more sub 20 guns lately. 12 fpe in 22 is too low, but 14-22 is a nice, quiet critter getter out to 50 and in.
