Looking at the speed that you’re already shooting slugs tells me one thing. If you’re looking for better expansion, the rest of us should really be concerned. I would venture to say that not many of us eclipse 1,000fps with our slug guns. While we get to enjoy better ballistics with slugs, I believe there are only a couple slugs out there that truly do their job as a hollow point. I think we are being bamboozled. A loud pop on a critter is just a heavy slug that didn’t slow down like a pellet. Probably nothing to do with expansion in a lot of cases.
Mabey in the future nsa will offer a modified hollow point similar to this, I would imagine it would be as easy as modifying the die. Just would need a demand for it or enough people asking .
Gentlemen I absolutely agree that for many HP slugs we as consumers are left to "ASSUME" a hollow point miens an expanding design as in firearm projectiles .... Not true sadly being most DON'T. The larger caliber NSA's open up well enough, smaller .22 & .177 do not !! This due to the hole / pin diameter used IMO.
In my world NSA's are very affordable and the quality is outstanding. When you find a good combo in a specific weight / diameter with the correct speed VERY accurate.
This modification to the HP cavity is my POOR MANS resolve in using cost effective slugs for a purpose biased towards PESTING and not super long range high BC better than a pellet type shooting. While this mod correctly applied may very well shoot out far better than a pellet ? .... In close the destructive and flesh tearing expansion trumps any pellet I've ever shot say perhaps the HADES .... But they don't even expand this well IMO.
poops and giggles .... Try it or not and decide for yourself if it works supporting the reason you shoot slugs while saving a boat load of $$$ over purpose built expanding slugs.
