Another bites the dust

I guess arh strikes again..

Yesterdays random through out the day shots to see if any poi changes popped up then this mornings . Had to go bigger bull due to bad overcast and kinda dark in the shade to eyeball a 1- 1-1/4" bull .. my eyes aint getting better as i get older mayby added to that

I blame the flyers on loose undersized pellets . Serms i hot a lot of random small in this tin ( again).

My 97K factory spring broke at 2K shots only on one end and would crunch on cocking. I installed a JM hornet spring and I think it lasted about 9K shots maybe a little more, and it broke at the top hat, been a min.
Then I got the JM (now no longer sold) QX4600 spring 31 coils of .120 wire and I spaced it up to the near max, these spring have a bigger ID like .540 or .550 IIRC. Anyway these QX4600's are still in my 97k, and 77K and it's been years since they were installed, although not doing 500 pellets a week..lol. I still have a couple of spares in my stock. The best part was the shorter spring I could install without a spring compressor, and I always had JM "set" the springs I ordered.
I hear the E3650 is a good spring to try in the R9/HW95 platform if you have the ability to make your guides and spacing, it has 34 coils of .122 wire with a .515 ID.
I'm guessing the hornet springs are stressed a bit more with the thicker wire and smaller diameters
and 34 coils, but it depends on what you want out of your rifle.
I like the easy cocking .120 wire springs and ease of assembly, but it depends on personal preference.

His set spring is easy to put in . I set these first . I think it's 3-5$ extra for a preset one from him

Nced likes that E3650 spring . I think it's the one he hints at for his guns ...

I just keep going hornet ..lol. Seems I get good cphp results on them for me .. who knows , maybe time for a change ..

20$ a spring every 8 months for the amount I can shoot ain't so bad .. 🤤

Yes Ed uses this spring with good results. Can't complain with your results vs 20 beans. The E3650 is even cheaper..lol.

Well thing is he claims full power on the hornet. Then nced says the E3650 is softer like 850 fps

Now I yet to get a hornet spring at full power regardless of seal fit so with it I'm where ncef claims the E3650 spring is. Anyway we'll shot my hornets average 835- 850 with cphp .177 so I'm never at say close to 900 full power with the hornet . I also like shooting 75-100y so I don't want less then that so that 850fps is my overall goal ..

I'm not sure how much the hornet can put out, but it is gonna depend on how well the gun seals and piston seal sliding fit..etc. Depending on pellet weight, with the hornet spring in my 97K I only ever got it to around 870, 880 maybe, but it wouldn't stay there, it would creep down and settle in around 840 to 860fps. And I didn't like the shot cycle, snappy.
Point being my 77K with the factory spring and home made guides and easily do 920fps with 8.44 jsb, so that tells me it seals better than my 97K.

Anyway, I settled on 835fps with the both of them for a smoother cycle and easy cocking, and like I said those springs have been in them for years.

Exactly.. I start hot but work ( hope ) on my target fps ..lol

Some guns even shoot slower with a stronger spring..lol.
Ya, seal fit can be a trick . I like to get a few extras to play with .

Oh well I guess it's just order another spring now . May just get 2 to have a extra on hand for the next snapping ..lol. maybe he just needs to offer a family pack of them 🤤

Yeah I would try some different springs. I gave up on the factory seals and had Ed make me a oring piston seal, been running it for years, easy to change out a oring if needed. The one in my 77K I made myself out of delrin, I haven't been back in that rifle since I put it in.

We'll see.. I sure I'll just get lazy and just get another hornet ..lol.

Iv learn d this gun likes broken springs .. hates a fresh one ..lol
Doesn’t seem that long ago when you last broke your spring.
You inspired me to add another to the bucket list—-to see all my springers break a spring from fatigue.
I’ve only had a Diana 460 spring break so far. Good luck. Crow
