Another day in the squirrel woods

Well got a little later start this morning and didn't get into woods until 8:45, killed a big fox squirrel 10 minutes after I sat down 33-35 yds away(forgot rangefinder). I missed the next 2 squirrels then didn't see anymore for awhile,ended up killing 3 more and was out of the woods by 10:45. Farthest was 33 to 35 yds and closet was about 7 yds.
Gun used was a JTS Standard .25 using the JSB Hades pellets, trigger on this gun is very light and was part of the reason I missed 2 squirrels in a row used to about a 1.5-2# trigger for hunting. I haven't measured this one but it feels like less then a pound which for me shooting up in trees is too light.

Steve try to use them all, one that I haven't taken yet, AA S510 .25 will get taken out next week. Only gun that Ive used and just dont care to take anymore is the Notos its way to light and for me not comfortable shooting offhand.. I like a little bit of weight.

DB was that two fox and one gray? Where I used to hunt there were both. But the grays came out when you could barely see and at some point the fox squirrels decided to wake up and get out. One could limit out if carefully done. I learned early on to mark where they fall and stay in position. More would come out to see what the commotion is. The squirrel call, bellows style, worked well later in the morning. If you have a season then, the first two weeks in June the mulberries attract large numbers. That is where I learned to sit still and resist going over and picking up a downed squirrel. Good eating then, when they were eating mostly fruit. Be Well Brothers, dito.

Its 2 greys and 2 fox, 2 greys are in the middle if thats what your asking. Yeah I usually just sit after I kill one, I mostly stalk them just started sitting waiting for them this year due to a really bad knee and its so dry you cant be quiet.. my woods behind my house used to be 90 percent fox squirrels now its 90 percent greys they ran fox squirrels out.
I used to use the squirrel distress call early in the season when still a lot of young squirrels, blow it and shake a small tree or bush squirrels go crazy and start barking making them easy to locate. And if there's any in the trees around you a lot of times they will come down tree barking making for a easy shot. 99 percent of the squirrels Ive killed in the 51 yrs Ive been hunting them have been killed sneaking, like to sit for deer but stalk squirrels.

I switched to rim fires in 1984, anybody can kill a squirrel with a shotgun. I got into PCP’s right at 10 years ago and haven’t used anything else since. It’s a hoot hunting squirrels with an air rifle, I’ll never use anything else.
