I had to shoot several times to finally be able to eliminate the iguana because today I was shooting with my less powerful, first gen .22 cal Avenger and the lightweight 14.13 grains crosman ultra magnum pellets. Not the best setup to hunt them because they have a extremely hard skin. If I had been shooting with the 15.99 grains hades hunting pellets or with one of my others more powerful Avenge-X .25 cal with the FX atomic 26.6 grains pellets I would have dispatched her with a single shot to her head. I recorded a video during the hunt.

Nice, but you don't need a .25 these guys were taken with the taipan veteran .177 can't remember if I shot these with the hornets or the fx 10.34gr but the fx were going about 870 and the hornets I had dialed to about 915fps and these were all between 35yds and 50yds

Excellent shooting today I was shooting with the crosman 14.13 grains at 879 fps but I am going to increase the power to at least 900 fps

You should be good. I had a tune on my avenger that with the hammer spring all the way out 14.3 crosman would shoot 910 fps if I remember correctly and they were still shockingly accurate. It was sweet as I could turn the spring up to shoot 18.1 875-880 fps. Both pellets still had a low ES in velocity.

Man I love Puerto Rico....Ive been there a bunch of times and miss it. Iguanas are everywhere there unfortunately. I love the Coqui's at night and the relaxed vibe. I wish I could find a small place over there to chill for about 3 months a year...( Nov-Jan ).......

Nope with my first gen Avenger .22 cal that was the airgun I was shooting yesterday in this video, the most accurate pellets are the JSB 15.89, the JSB hades 15.99, the air arms diabolo fields 16 grains and the JSB 18 grains. But from time to time I also shot with the crosman 14.13 grains pellets just to save a few bucks because they are more affordable than the JSB, and I shot my airguns almost daily because I am retired. If yesterday I had been shooting with the 15.99 grains hades instead of the crosman or with one of my two Avenge-X .25 cal with the FX atomic 26.6 grains pellets, I guarantee you that I would have dispatched that iguana with a single shot to its head. Look the huge difference in size between the .22 and .25 cal pellets.

Oh what I'd give to spend a day after those. Especially as I'm sitting in the cold hunting squirrels one quarter the size of those iguana's at best.

Yes some of them look like munsters…😳 We have hundreds of them everywhere here in PR.

Yeah, here in Florida I've used everything from .177 to .35 cal for iguanas. I've tried the crosmans but could never get them to group better than any other pellet on any gun I've ever owned or shot. But my fav caliber to use is .177 for roofs and .22 and .30 for open areas. I'd love to go back to Puerto Rico just to clear my abuelas trees from iguanas lol

Are these thing overpopulated in Puerto Rico?
I heard some sub-species of iguanas are highly endangered, but others (I think these are green iguanas, the species?) are so plentiful that they destroy crops and cause environmental damage like in Florida for instance, where they're considered invasive species. What other kinds of damage do these critters do actually? I'm really interested in the behaviour of these things, I'd like to know how can their population get so big in some areas and with some of their sub-species?

I think that this story kind of correlates to the one we in Europe have with wild boars. In Finland for instance, wild boars were re-introduced in the 1950's for grazing purposes, but soon their population began skyrocketing and today there's an all year round hunting season for them, because there are so many bars there...
