Another Impact upgrade I MUST have.......doh!

I see a lot of the top shooters at rmac use that backbone. Must be a reason I’m sure. These guys test this ****
Yep, monkey see monkey do.
Nuthin new, the attitude's been in play for many-many years. One person gives something a try, all the followers jump in, whether the product works...or not..!

Has anyone told FX that their product stinks and needs $1500 worth of band aids to make it work correctly ?

Has ANYONE...ACTUALLY...done any testing to see if this product works better (or no gain, other than a lighter wallet) than the FX backbone...as it's called ? Or is this like many other things, just conjecture ?

I suspect they Also ran into the same hold sensitivity/chassis flex issues I have. To get highest level of accuracy/consistently the chassis does need a bit of extra structural strength. Again it’s for that last 1-2% when winning and losing can be separated by 1/8-1/4 of an inch.

The stock Impact shoots GREAT at the “normal” power level for most people. It’s fantastic that we have so many options and choices to upgrade to do things no one thought possible before! I can’t wait for mine to try at the 300 yes range, been kinda busy with field target lately so this upgrade should get me back out to the range for some long distance paper punching!

That backbone has one downside. It places your scope even higher and the distance between barrel and scope is longer. It is not a positive thing as it amplifies any canting error.

I would love to see a backbone without that problem. Can someone make one from titanium? And please, do not make it that long.

One more aspect which came to my mind. The last thing I do is following the influencers blindly. If I don't need something then I don't use it. I need a short gun so 500mm barrel is the max length I can use. 700-800mm barrels are simply grotesque for me. Why I mention that? Because I see a lot of people buying rails and rail bipods and they really don't need them. They just buy them because they saw some influencers using them. Guys, just look at this name: INFLUENCER. This name brings a lot of information about that person. He has an influence on you to do something. It does not need to be the best thing for you. It is the thing influencer was paid for. Please always use your brain and choose wisely.

If you look at the actual rail section it does not appear to be any higher, the cheek piece has increased in height but I had to buy cheek riser to accommodate my scope anyways so don't think that's a real issue.

This is a free country so no one has to follow anyone or anything blindly and if they do then it's their right to do so. I saw the backbone on Utah Air's website before anyone even mentioned it so I do an excellent job of being a bad influence on myself! As soon as I saw it I had to get it because it should address one of my issues with the Impact at 300 yards, but most do not shoot 300 yards.

The backbone clearly isn’t for everyone nor do most people would even need it. It’s designed for a few who are pushing the gun well beyond the Impact’s original design limit by a long way. Someone will complain about anything regardless if there are “influencer” or not, good thing we are all too old to care about some random stranger on the internet thinks.

Mike im sure testing the rail has been done. Dont think they just make the rail for looks, seems like you gotta lotta negative posts about most of the products that are aftermarket, just look at your posts, not saying monkey see monkey do lol. Sure like the stuff they come out with for anything that brings better results to the given user, take a look at one of the best air gun tuners in the world ER at rmac hes got lotta aftermarket parts on his gun and im sure its just not for looks and im sure he tests all he makes.

Adding aftermarket parts...........
Just look at the cars, I know one "performance shop" in my area you need to wait your schedule at least 3 weeks out. Last time I was there to get some "high-end" car shampoo I saw a guy was driving out he's Subaru WRX, the shop owner said $17K fresh upgrade on it.
The other shop that I know working on Porsche upgrades only, I have no idea what $ is in that game but the exhaust is only $15K.

Adding bits and pieces to a gun that's supposed to be the top of the line for the brand? Whether the part actually improves performance or is simply "bling". Is a marketing master stroke by FX. As for lobbing pellets out to 300 yards with anything representing real world accuracy on a consistent basis... Laughable.
fx didnt make the rail, im pretty sure your car has roll up windows still also lets get real daystate - any ar 15 you can add lotta nice parts that upgrade to a better shooter bet your happy you sold your fx guns or any other you have put a upgrade on it, i just think its silly over a rail to say that its silly upgrade best bipods best optics best scope rings they upgrade stuff

@douger, I didn't say it was particular to a brand... Haven't owned a FX yet. And am not knocking the brand, just made a statement. Upgrade-itis is a real disease. Scopes, bipods are necessary as basic items, not so a lot of the useless bling... Just the idea that "you too" can consistently lob, accurately out to 300+ yards? Just pop this rail on... 300 yard MOA here I come... any Chipmunk south of 150 yards is toast.🐿😏

yeah havnt seen that lob out to 300 yards yet lol as i feeel same as some stuff is needed some isnt some just like to upgrade stuff like different tires and wheels on the truck. aint nobody gonna shoot a bird or any chipmunk south of 150 yards time and time again just aint happening well maybe in the perfect conditions if your that good i for one like to set up a gun how i like to see it and perfome well for what i want. bling is nice if you want it also, dont think this rail is bling its a tune devise as i see it

@douger: 300 yards ain’t that bad, it’s only about 72 inch or 20 mrad of hold over at 75 FPE…..😅

Long range airgun is just like center fire long range, every little bit counts. All the king of 2 miles shooters shoot factory guns with no upgrades you know! 😂

At 100 yards the hold sensitivity doesn’t really show up in the 20-50 FPE range, at 50+ FPE recoil management and hold sensitivity starts to show but difference at 100 yard is between 3/4 MOA groups vs 1.5 MOA groups, with wind it isn’t easy to tell unless you shoot a lot. @RMAC a shooter with 3/4-1 MOA accuracy in calm conditions won’t even get to quality! To have a chance to place at all you have to consistently shoot 1/2 MOA in calm conditions and know the wind drift better than anyone.

At 300 yards the POI shift thanks to hold sensitivity with my current setup is about 2-3 inches from small mistakes and 5-8 inches from a bad mistake. Granted shooting airguns at 300 yards is somewhat of a fool’s errant.😜My next useless upgrades blindly following influencers are power block and plenum, the backbone and possibly 800mm tensioned .22 barrel(if I can find one) to shoot NSA’s 38.9 grain slugs at 950fps or about 78 FPE.

I’ve only managed one single MOA group at 300 yards all this time shooting well over 1000 rounds at 300 yard targets, I’m hoping with the upgrades and better BC ammo from NSA I get to find a few more of these down at the end of 300 yard range.

I'd like to follow-up my post on page 1:
There I noted that the AirMarksman Backbone Rail does nothing to reduce the flex in the flimsy FX barrel/shroud.

⭐ Well, I just DID come across a replacement rail that DOES reduce the flex of the barrel/shroud! 👍🏼:

▪ The Saber Tactical Top Rail Support.

▪ Comes with 20moa, bubble level, M-Lok.

▪ In standard and compact sizes.

▪ To see the installation of the shroud support look at 5:08min here:

🤔 Now, if such a rail replacement would come for more FX guns (say, the Dreamline), I might be much more favorable to buying an FX gun.
But of course, that would be adding another $250 to the already high price of an FX.
🤔 Novel idea: How about making the guns right there in the FX factory with an extended rail with barrel support to keep the flimsy FX barrel from flexing?

Matthias

Sorry if my frustration came out there for a bit... — my frustration with guns that are less suited to my rough & tumble shooting scenarios....
I'll shut up now. 👍🏼

i tried the trs compact rail as its just a pellet shooter so the barrel band or whaever you call it my impact didnt like it made it more prone to not as tight as groups as far as i tested but gotta try few things with it as far as tension on the screws i got fx carbon sleeve also. i think more than e=anything more powered guns will be better and longer barrels for sure, i liked the more slots for moving the scope around for my scope cam as i gotta moveit for more eye relief to make it more comfy, gotta play with position of that barrel spacer also yet
