Another Impact upgrade I MUST have.......doh!

@JungleShooter: FX shrouds and barrels are flexy! BUT the design gives FX gun the light weight which many of us love. It certainly isn’t rough and tumble but some carbon tubes go a long way to remediate the flex while still keeping the weight down. It certainly isn’t going to be the same as a heavy barrel other manufactures have but the cost is weight and lack of barrel selection especially if you want to shoot slugs, only you can decide what works for you.

Some folks say why can’t you leave a good thing alone and by finding an ammo the guns shoots and be done. While I do that in my target guns but just like center fire long range we are always chasing the newest ammo with higher BC! Once up on a time everyone says no one will need more than 308 but that was at 100-300 yards. At 1000 yards a 1 MOA 6.5 gun will straight up embarrass a 1/2 MOA 308 gun. While sticking to a known hood ammo is fine for most people but that simply won’t cut it for the few of us chasing well beyond whats “normal”. I’m happy slug development is full speed from many manufactures, it indeed is a great time for few of us long range airgunners.

If we all stuck in the what currently works mode then we’d still be riding horse buggies right?

i tried the trs compact rail as its just a pellet shooter so the barrel band or whaever you call it my impact didnt like it made it more prone to not as tight as groups as far as i tested but gotta try few things with it as far as tension on the screws i got fx carbon sleeve also. i think more than e=anything more powered guns will be better and longer barrels for sure, i liked the more slots for moving the scope around for my scope cam as i gotta moveit for more eye relief to make it more comfy, gotta play with position of that barrel spacer also yet View attachment 269552View attachment 269551
So did the built-in clamp help you to achieve better groups?

I never tried these clamps or barrel support devices because it goes against my theory of leaving the barrel to be as free floating as possible. I’m sure you can have success with the camps if you spent the time to find the right “node” but it doesn’t quite jive with me.

Granted free floating barrel isn’t impact’s design with front support under the rail but adding more to me isn’t worth the trouble because that’s adding another harmonic variable to the equation, poor little straw barrel is been twisted every way at both ends now!🤣 My suggestion is just to tension the shroud or use a carbon tube to put tension on the whole barrel. That so far gave me the best accuracy with least amount of work.

Obviously NOT ALL upgrades makes it to my must have list.

I’m not going to get into a long winded post but I’ve noticed some noticeable flex issues with my one M3. I don’t feel I’m really pushing it that hard. And I don’t believe how hard you push the gun has anything to do with the flex. If you haven’t figured out how to test for flex influencing POI and feel you don’t have an issue, that’s great. For those of us that have, it’s nice to see we have an option to try. If 90% of FX customers don’t think they need one then how can you bash FX. They built the gun good enough for the majority of their customers.

I think only way to make the barrel "less influential" ..... don't touch it ;)
Some sort of full (around barrel) handguard hard connected to the action block. Something similar like the Leshiy2 handguards (aluminum or CF octa tubes).
And just let it float as it was designed.

douger?
How do you like that UTG overbarrel bipod? I am tinkering for some time to get something like that (Leapers or Frontmeier) but I have a green laser below the scope nowhere else to put and that picatinny clamp would render the laser useless.

A flexy chassis might jive better with a flexy barrel mounting system. If guys think that choosing a 500, 600 or 700mm Impact is as simple as I want more power potential or I like cute little guns, it goes way deeper than that. They are three totally different guns. How they respond to mods and how much they flex is also very different across the models. I have two models in different calibers. Very very different guns. To the extent that a .25 600mm guy should probably not be giving too much advice to a .22 600mm guy.

Holy cow!!!! Decided to look at the RMAC videos out of curiosity today and all the “influencers” had one of these backbone thing on it’s nuts! I feel sooooooo………influenced! Even though I haven’t seen any of them before I ordered mine. If I didn’t know better I would also think I followed all the influencers blindly! 🤣 since I never saw the influencers getting the backbone does that make me just blind instead of blindly following? 🤣

I recently stripped two Impacts down when I sold them. They were so light and handled nice. Thought to myself, what the heck is wrong with me, I turn all my guns into porkers. But it does help when sending heavy stuff fast. I have a TJ barrel on my one Impact and that is a serious difference in weight. Its a tank now.
Any improvement when you use your TJ barrel ?

The backbone is genius, however not to my liking stylistically. Making it a "backbone" to stiffen the gun was cool, but to also have it serve as a cheek riser was superrrr well thought out!! Kudos!!! I think they could have taken it to an even better level and offered it with an ambi cheek piece.

I would love to see the Backbone and the Saber TRS have a baby!! (All cool sounding names are escaping me at the moment but feel free to give it a shot)
Saberbone.

It finally made it into my dirty little hands. Out of box impression is it’s very well made with fit and finish seem smooth and straight.

Mounted on my impact and I really like it! It certainly looks better in person at least for the black version I have.

The backbone is MUCH thicker and should have much better stiffness compared to factory “frame”. Just one glance at the cross section the difference is even far more significant than from utah air pictures. Can’t wait to try it at the range. The holes above the action is also super awesome for grabbing the gun instead of grabbing the scope.
