Anschutz Anschutz help

Hello and thank you for any potential help. I purchased this rifle yesterday from a gentleman who received the rifle upon death of a friend. When he received the rifle he sent it to Allen Z and had a 12ftp regulator installed.

When shooting the rifle today I found it to hold about a 5 inch group at 30 yards. When trying to investigate what the problem is I found that the barrle band was loose and missing a screw. On that band there are also two other screws that appear to center the barrle?

I have been searching the internet like crazy and cannot even find what model or year this rifle is to figure this out on my own. Thank you guys so very much!!!

It appears to be a Anschutz 2002, hard to tell what the original model was exactly as the markings are gone from the pictures.

In terms of accuracy, the barrels on those rifles were very short if it's the factory barrel. The barrel band centering screws shouldn't have much impact on the general accuracy of the rifle. Most of the time you'd want those to NOT engage the shroud. Missing the bottom screw is not a good thing, but again, shouldn't cause that kind of poor accuracy since the band is still keeping the action together and the action should be secured into the stock further back.

It's possible that the barrel retaining screws in the breech are loose, that would be a good place to start. There should be one on each side of the front half of the breech block.

To see if it's the shroud causing some kind of inaccuracy, I would remove it and see if the groupings improve. If so, then it's just a matter of determining what's going on with the shroud to cause that. In years past, AZ used small set screws to secure his shrouds, check those also. If the shroud is loose, pellets might be clipping on their way out of the shroud.

Other option (and good idea in general) would be to call AZ and see what he has to say. Especially if he worked on the gun recently, he probably shot it before sending it back.

I did find a screw on the bottom of the stock under the receiver to be loose. I tightened it up and the wobble is now gone! Thank you so much! Now I will check to see if the accuracy improved. AZ's work is legendary so I have high hopes

Update:
The accuracy has greatly improved!!! with tightening that one screw. Thank you so much Tpartner412

Does anybody have any idea on how I identify this rifles model so that I can research it a little bit. Such as have some back up o rings?

I read on the internet and it mentions to looks for markings on the barrel. But I'm scared to take it apart with no way of looking how to put it back together. There is a 7 on the bottom of the shroud near the receiver.

Happy to help.

It's definitely a 2002 or variant of the 2002 family like the 2020 or 2025. More than likely a 2002 as that's far more common.

Tyler knows what he is doing with these rifles. He modified mine and it shoots amazingly well. Keep with it and enjoy the nice rifle. That band you shouldn't need, do you? Or did Anschutz change the way the barrels are from the 2002 to the 8002?

I do like the silver quite a bit on the rifle. Really stands out!

Looking good bro! Love that stock and the carbon shroud.

Similar to the 8002/9003/9015, you really don't need the barrel band. He could remove it if he wants and it shouldn't cause any issues.

It's funny how woogie_man was one of my first messages on AN and here we are again about dam near the same gun. Every single person I have heard from so far, I have not been able to find this info surfing online. A single 3 minue post from someone has saved me well over a hour of research at the minimum because my research has shown nothing. It helps so much at least now knowing where to look thank you everyone!

Hi,
Do you still own the rifle? It's a 2002 model for sure.
Yes I do still have it. I signed up for the world's shoot and have been trying to shoot as much as possible with it. I am no where even going to compete with those guys but I plan on using this. There really doesn't seem to be a lot of information on the internet about these

Great questions but unfortunately I only 3 days ago figured out how to change the velocity of pellets. I have experimented with many different pellets but this was with the rifle shooting under powered. I pretty much wasted all my time experimenting with pellets because none of that matters now that I can change velocity with a twist of a external screw that I didn't know was even there. Now that I have it shooting just under 12fpe I again will sample pellets but I am currently leaning towards 10.34 gr pellets over the lighter pellets that everyone else seems to be shooting

It has a nikko sterling diamond 10-50x-60 that I really don't have anything to compare it to not even scopes on my PB guns. Its closer to my spotting scopes than it is to my rifle scopes lol

Glad you’re shooting!
