Any opinions on the Hatsan Lightening

Love my Lightning. If you do a search, there are a few long threads on the Lightning from around September of 2018 when they were finally available to the public. There’s a couple of threads that were 100% negative reviews on it, unfortunately, but as history has shown, all new products have their initial faults till the bugs get worked out. I’m not 100% sure, but I believe I was one of the few that got one before anyone else did, cause I received mine in July, long before hatsan had it available for purchase on their web site. Seems no one else had them in stock, either. Mine came shipped in an enclosed delivery truck, steel strapped to a pallet. No UPS, no FedX, but delivered by a private company. Unboxing it showed no delivery damage whatsoever. I’ve probably got around two hours of use on it so far, from topping off my tank. Tops off my 88 cu ft tank from 3200 psi to 4500 psi on average about 13 minutes, and has yet to go over 165 degrees Fahrenheit while in use during the summer. During winter fills, 140 degrees tops.

I believe field supply.com has them for under a grand. Do your due diligence and read the instructions thoroughly, and don’t try to “figure it out” cause reading the manual might be too much of a hassle. Don’t go cheap on the compressor oil, either. I use Amsoil synthetic, and use Zerex coolant made for Diesel engines. Both met the specs required for the fluids, so I bought and used the best. Pay attention to the coolant ratio to water, and use distilled water like the manual states.

So far, the only cons that have happened is the digital gage got funky on my cause the minus button kept sticking every time I pressed on it, and the fill whip started to leak. No biggie, cause I filled out a service form on Hatsan’s website, showed proof of purchase and registration, and both new replacements were in my hands a week later.

yes, knowing what I know, I would buy it again.

Purchased mine in September, have 10 fills so far of my 45 min. SCBA from 3200-4495 psi under 15 minutes. No problems so far, I love having HPA on tap. I can shoot without worrying about that next fill of the tank. I bit the bullet on the compressor because I couldn’t see myself buying more PCPs without the means to fill them at my convenience. Once I factored in what my tank “fills” were really costing (time, gas, tolls) the unit will pay for itself in two years tops.
