I am using the Nielsen 350s. Now all I have to do is find an elk. Have been out a couple times but not seeing much sign. Still hot and dry. No worries, I have until November.

Saw that. Just not seeing the elk. Plenty of tracks but they are not in the rut yet. The Texan is shooting great and everything else is ready. Wish me luck. I will post pictures when I get it done.

Update
So I have been out quite a bit but have not been successful yet. I have gotten into the elk a few times but have not had a good clean shot so I have passed. The first part of my season, short range weapon cow only, is over. Now any weapon spike only is open. It goes back to short range cow only in November. I will be back at it hard then. Deer season opens in 4 days so maybe I will try for a deer with the Texan while I am waiting for November.

Thanks for the update. I've been following your thread and hoping it works out for you in the second half of the season. I am heading up that way next week for an elk hunt as well, but I am bringing a 30.06 and leaving my Texan at home. Good to hear you're getting into the elk with the Texan because a little bit of hope goes a long way chasing elk.

I thought that since I started this that I should give a final update. I can sum it up ion one word; skunked.
It wasn't for lack of effort on my part but I just couldn't get it done. I have tons of excuses but you know what they say about excuses. I have hunted elk in Colorado for over 40 years and thought that I had them pretty well figured out but Idaho elk do not follow the same rule book. I found tons of fresh sign and when I would come back the next day they were gone. I did see plenty of beautiful country and a bunch of wolf sign. I saw elk but was never able to get a good clean shot.

I guess that is why they call it hunting not killing. I am looking forward to other opportunities to take the air rifle out for a hunt.

It is far more challenging to get into a close range shot at an animal than it is to sniper one out from 500 yards away. From what you wrote, it sounds like you were hunting and doing the right things ethically rather than just shooting something. Good onto you. There's always next year.

Four or five Coyotes, one with .25, some with .30 Cal and one with .357 Cal.
Three gray Foxes, one with .177, one with .22 and one with .30 Cal.

Yes, it is possible to bring air rifles. The problem might be the scope.
I do not know why Mexican customs request a permit for importing scopes.
I will go hunting mule deer on February next year, but with the 30-06.
I will bring my FX Indy in .30 Cal to be shooting around.
If stars get aligned I will try to get my Mule deer with the Indy. But I know it will be VERY difficult to do that.
I live in the center of the Country, in Querétaro.

I must admit, my anxiety kicked up a notch when I saw your thread, thinking, oh no, here is someone else doing something for which they are unprepared, and with unrealistic expectations. But you are pursuing this exactly right, and when you find an acceptable opportunity, I'm sure you will be successful. Thanks for sharing, and thanks for doing it right.
