FX Anyone have an FX Dynamic Compact Takedown?

Thanks. I do have a 600mm Panthera that required a ton of weight to get the balance point just forward of the action. Rather than add a bunch of weights to the factory rail, I opted to add a 580cc bottle with a K&L drake rail system. The takedown dynamic does keep the bottle closer to the actions rear, and its rear stock is definitely lighter, but its barrel and rail are shorter. I am hoping you will just need a bipod or something up front to get the balance point forward of the grip, if it happens to be aft of it.

@FLgunner - Still want to hear your initial thoughts when you get your compact.

I couldn't resit... I have one on the way to me in .22. I'm hoping to be able to get JSB 18.1 somewhere in the mid-high 800's with a decent shot count, and that might make it my preferred walk and stalk squirrel rig. Usually, I do research for months before I buy, but something about this little gun made me lighten my wallet considerably. It is a sexy looking little guy... I love the rail (instead of a bottle) up front, the look and the endless possibilities of what you can do with that space. I'm not sure how I'll like the bottle as a cheek rest, but I guess I'm gonna find out ;-).

It's supposed to be delivered tomorrow, so depending upon when the Brown Truck arrives, I'll have shot it tomorrow afternoon, or sometime on Wednesday. Be sure to post your impressions as well! I have a DNT Zulus 3-12 NV Scope coming for it also, should make for a compact lightweight critter gitter!

I had a zulus for a week, I didn't like it as much as a traditional scope. I have a 1-6x24 LPVO for precision and a vortex red dot for my Wildcat compact. Its quicker and easier to acquire the shot for me.

Of all the digital scopes I’ve tried, the Zulus has the clearest picture. I find this interesting because the resolution is 1080p. Other with 4K resolution aren’t near as clear and crisp!
Its just slower to me dialing in the shot, Im not a big fan of techy/didgital stuff. too many buttons to press. I liked it when I first looked through it but after a week of fidgeting with it, I sold it lol. What can I say, I'm technically challenged. I did like the night vision.

A big downside I see with the rear bottle configuration of this platform is the possibility of the center of gravity being too far rearward. Please post where this point is along the rifles length once you have it setup with your optic. Thanks.
The Dynamic Compact arrived! I checked the balance point and it's right about dead on right under the trigger! This is without a scope mounted. I put a UTG Compact Accushot scope on it and zeroed it in. It was shooting pretty hot and was quite loud, even with a DonnyFL FX can installed. It was shooting 14.3 Crosman Domed at around 980 FPS and 15.8 gr JTS at 920ish. I went to the 18.1 grain FX domed pellets and backed the macro wheel back to 2 and it's shooting those right at 850 FPS and it's much quieter! It' crazy accurate at 35 yards, even with the short 300mm barrel! With the DFL FX attached it's just a hair shorter than my Impact M4 Standard with moderator attached.

The 3-12X Zulus is due to be delivered tomorrow, once that arrived it will be mounted on the Dynamic Compact. The one thing that is missing is a picatinny rail in front of the trigger guard like the Impact and Dream-Tac have, it's nice for mounting to my tripod.

It comes with an arca rail I believe. You can probably find a short pic rail to attach to it. They look like a sweet piece of equipment. Enjoy!

Yes, the Arca Rail runs the entire length of the bottom of the forearm frame. There are 2 holes on the bottom of the box just in front of the trigger housing, I may see if I can figure a way to mount a small Picatinny rail there, it closer to the center of gravity of the rifle. Attaching it to a tripod witht he Arca rail will leave too much weight toward the rear of the gun.

Good luck. This is the same situation I encountered with the Panthera. I do the majority of my shooting from tripods which requires the cg of the rifle to ideally be at a point where the tripod can attach to it. Otherwise you have to support more cantilevered weight from the rifle which degrades accuracy. You might need to move the bottle up front with a new arca rail or bottle clamp/adaptor to achieve this.

I got my FX Dynamic Compact .22 delivered yesterday. Unfortunately, heavy-handed UPS had "put it through some rigorous dependability testing". I noticed when I opened the case, the airgun nor the cylinder were in the appropriate cutouts, and were even laying completely flipped over. I didn't notice immediately, but there was a slight dent and misalignment in the regulator gauge cover. I guess someone must have stood on top of this box and jumped up and down???!!! Looking closer the foam on top (inside the case) was ripped, and from the outside of the case you could see discolorations where the two pressure gauges had been pressed against the top of the case. I'll never use the case again - so, I really don't care about the case, but it's kind of a bummer to have a slightly bent gauge on my new airgun.

Shout-out to thepelletshop.com - Great service!!! After I noticed the bent gauge, and put together what must have happened during shipping... I emailed thepelletshop.com and explained what happened. Even though it wasn't their fault, they immediately apologized and shipped me a new pressure gauge. Did I mention... BY FAR they have the fastest shipping in the industry. They must operate inside a UPS facility or something ;-)

Before I noticed the damage, I was able to get an old scope mounted and shot it in the garage last night. Turns out, it seems to shoot great! And, from what I can tell this morning, there is no leaking.

Way to early initial thoughts, surprises, and impressions...

  • Really great looking airgun to my eyes! Great balance right under the trigger, perfect for walk-stalk hunting. A good portion of my shooting is off a tripod with a tac-table and bag. Maybe I'll try using the arca rail one day, but I prefer not to be tethered to tripod.
  • I set up my 10 yard range in the garage to get my scope sighted in, loaded first pellet... POWWW! Holy crap, this thing is loud; without LDC; in the reverberating garage! Then I noticed the hammer was maxed out on macro wheel - it got quieter after dialing that down. Still though... I'm gonna need a fat boy!
  • LOVE the 30 MOA rail! The old scope was shooting way high. Had to dial it down. Won't have to shim my scopes!
  • The cheek rest (A.K.A., 480cc bottle) is a little fat :) I'll get used to it.
  • Looking at photos on the inter-web, I was worried about being able to get the scope low enough while still having room for the magazine. In fact I ordered some mini-mags from QDFox so I could use lower mounts. Turns out, initially I used high rings that put center of scope at 1.26 inches (barely clears stock mag) - and, I want something even higher for more comfort. So, I guess I wasted that mini-mag money.
  • Is this really an AR grip? I had a couple extra Magpul K2 XL AR-grips left over from my tragic boating accident when I lost all my powder-burners, and I tried to install it... it doesn't fit - what's up with that?
  • Great power out of 300mm barrel... Mine was shooting 890ish with JSB 18.1grain - reg set at just under 130 bar. That seemed high to me? But I've never had an airgun with this short of a barrel. I dialed down the hammer to get to 865, and that seemed like a good spot. I'll experiment more later, but 30-ish fpe is perfect!
  • The trigger is fantastic! But, was the trigger reach set by a child (very short)?? Thanks to "910 Airgun Tuning and Repairs", after watching the youtube video, it turned out to be easy to adjust trigger reach with 1.5mm allen.
  • The airgun community is great! But, how do I make this stop?!?!?!?! Now "I need"... an ARCA bi-pod; another scope (light-weight); a vertical grip that will fit; a m-loc fore-grip; a chrony that won't eat batteries like FX Pocket Chrony V1; And, I'm sure I'll think of something else I want tomorrow ;-)

The regulator was set at 120 BAR when I got it. I don't recall where the Macro Wheel was set. But, the regulator is now set at 90 BAR, the Macro Wheel is on 3 and the micro wheel is set on 2. This is giving me 850ish with the 18.1 grain pellets. Here is a picture of how I have mine in the DeathGrip Tripod.

Don't laugh, it works and is very solid! I attached a Picatinny Rail to the front bottom of the fore grip using M-LOK bolts, then added a low Picatinny Rider, then attached a Saber Tactical Picatinny Rail I wasn't using. The height was perfect and it landed right under that block with the 2 screw holes. I fashion mounts using the bottom half of a heavy, cantilever 30mm Picatinny scope ring that I attach to a wooden block. The wooden block is gripped by the tripod. The scope mount/wooden block is easily removable with now twist of the mount's nut or the rest of the rail get-up is easily removed with the 2 nuts on it, so the whole contraption can be removed pretty quickly if I just want to carry around the gun.

One oddity I found, after lowering the regulator pressure, it doesn't seem like the hammer spring adjustment has amu effect. I can dial it from 1 to 23 and the velocity stays about the same!

I feel, as a long time dashcam addict, that at least on my Oneleaf NV500 scope, the picture seem pretty generic like its just the basic stuff the SOC maker make to handle a given sensor, compared to dashcams i have using same sensor the NV500 are not in the same league.

You really need to tweak your image settings to really take advantage of the capabilities of a given sensor / SOC combo, it is amazing what can be done VS the default settings you get from the SOC maker.
You easy see that in small little brand systems that do have the actual hardware they claim, but no developer department to really get things going, and so you have pretty miserable / generic looking image VS a brand that get in there and adjust on all the knobs and dials.

Thanks for that info! That confirms what I thought... mine is really high (129ish). I'm no tuning expert, but now I know I have a lot of room to play with reg pressure. That's probably the reason mine is a bit loud. First I'm gonna try some heavier pellets at the high pressure and see what they'll do.

That's an ingenuous setup you have for the tripod! It's good to have all that rail with m-lok... you can do so much with it. I need to put some more thought into my tripod setup one day. I just plop mine on a bag on top of tripod - not super steady, but better than off-hand :)
