Anyone have the hatsan/av compressor?

Update from hatsan. They just email me back with an fedex shipping label. Thank God I don't have to pay to ship it..it's really heavy. I've ship item that weight half what the hatsan weigh and FedEx/ups charges 100-120 for shipping. Trying to ship this compressor will probably be $150-200. Already paid $1339, wouldn't want to pay more to get it fix. Now I have to carry this heavy thing to FedEx. Not gonna be fun. Weight on box says 109 pounds. Dang

Yiur not gonna drive it to FedX? That’s what I would do!

FedX will off load it off the truck for you. If you own a truck or have access to one, just make a make shift ramp out of some scrap wood and slide it up there, or better yet, get your neighbor to help you lift it up.

The guy that delivered mine was a young kid in his early thirties, and he didn’t want to drive the enclosed cab truck into my driveway, so he cut the bands off of the pallet, and carried that thing in off of the handles on the sides of the box, 250’ to my garage. Not saying you should do that, cause I wouldn’t, but recruit some help. The hard part is done, and that’s getting hatsan to take it back!

Got mine tonight. Only unboxed it to take a pic. I'll set it up this weekend if I have any free time.

Nice. Hope you have good luck with yours. What oil are you gonna use on it?

Going to use RP and I have good antifreeze from work. Yea I hope I have good luck too. Some of these incidents others have had kinda make me concerned. My Yong Heng blew up a couple months back and I rebuilt it . Now it runs great so at least I have a back up plan.

I’m curious to you all that change the oil immediately after it’s been run for about 30 minutes to an hour. On the other tread on these Lightning’s in the compressor sub forum it showed black oil just after a little bit of use. My question is, when looking thru the sight glass at the oil fill end, does the oil look black there, also? Cause looking at the color of the Amsoil I chose to use thru that sight glass, mine still looks brand new. I have about 4 hours, maybe a bit less on mine.

I used mag1 air compressor oil iso 100 30w. This is after 2 hours of run time. It is about same color as if you pour pepsi into a bottle. In the window it looks cloudy greyish. In the manual they say change first oil after 20 hours and like 100 hours after. Idk if they mean just run the oil dirty for that long period or what. Cause they get dark pretty fast. And it's gonna be expensive to keep changing oil after every 30 mins.

left oil after 2 hours. Right new oil

SK, when I was having issues with mine, the one where I opted to send it back for repairs it was blackening the oil really bad. I was even getting oil blow-by into the filter bottom. Glem Chally's thoughts on the oil blacking was possibly due to the oil detonating/combusting which was being caused by my high pressure piston rings failing and allowing the lube oil to be compressed. I was also getting some strange short "knocking" sounds at high pressure. Some of this now contaminated oil probably found it's way back into the crack case as it ran. Every since I replaced the high pressure rings the lube oil (now RP) has been staying a lot cleaner, the knocking has gone away and no oil is making it to the filter.

Just a thought

Seems those sight windows always form a bit of a flow dead pocket and lag behind an indication of true color in many cases. I've noticed it on tractors and other equipment as well. The oil change after initial run in is something I've almost always done on machinery of any type. Seems that there may often be debris of some type in the system, whether it be casting flash pieces that may break off from vibration or possibly casting investment residue that could wash into the system. An oil change after initial run always made me feel better and I usually follow that up with a second short interval oil change before then following recommended intervals. Cannot guarantee it helps anything but what can it hurt?
