Anyone having a moderator clipping problem on Airacuda Max .30 ?

3 Dec 2023 UPDATE. I received another Max in 30 caliber from Pyramyd Air a few days ago. This replaced my previous three Max, one in each caliber that were clipping moderators due to a manufacturing defect in the air gun not the moderator. This defect has been extensively reported and commented on through most of the appropriate forms. So it's likely my new Max in 30 caliber was from a batch wherein the defect has been corrected. That means that I shot my Airacuda Max in 30 caliber with the Ronan 35 caliber moderator and it did not clip and it shot very accurately and substantially reduced the report.

I recall seeing reports of clipping with the Airacuda, apparently enough that DonnyFL came up with something for it.

I haven’t opened up an Airacuda but I’m familiar with a sister platform made by the same OEM which also frequently had clipping issues. There’s a spacer / air stripper at the muzzle responsible for keeping the barrel centered within the shroud. However the parts tolerances allow the muzzle to bias off center, contributing to clipping. To better center it, you can try wrapping clear tape around the muzzle until the stripper is a neat slip fit (no play), and again around the stripper OD until it is a slip fit to the shroud. May very well fix it permanently for $0.10.

I didn't wanna ruin another moderator because last time I tried it on another Max in 30 that I had as well as the 22 and the 25, he destroyed a Ronin. But if looking down the barrel is someone suggested with the light at the bridge and shows a problem then I'll try your solution with tape. Do you have a suggestion as to a particular type of tape?

I purchased the DonnyFL solution and that did not resolve the clipping in any of the calibers of the Airacuda Max even though my moderators were always one size up.

Thanks. What OEM is it?

DonnyFL adapter arrived yesterday, disappointing results in .25 Max. Planning to pull shroud and investigate fit at muzzle, as Nervoustrig suggested with OEM stripper. Machined out of a solid aluminum, DonnyFL should help align shroud to muzzle as long as it has solid grip on muzzle. Threading in DonnyFL, I didn't feel the expected resistance of snugging down on muzzle end. Tape on muzzle so that DonnyFL snug fits sounds like a plan. WM

I just got a Max in .22 today and haven't tried a suppressor on it yet. There's some things I don't like about it like the magazines are hard to load compared to any other pcp rifles I have and they are tight in the breech. I also don't like the twang of the hammer spring on every shot. Tomorrow I'll see if I can fix some of these minor problems and see how accurate it really is. Compared to my Dar Gen 3 it seems cheaply made. Right now I'm glad I got it for 105.00 off regular price

Shaky,
There's a known problem that JTS never addressed, the single stock bolt is unsupported between action and stock so tightening will warp action causing pinching of magazine opening, thus, hard to insert. Loosening stock bolt should allow magazine opening to widen. The old adage to keep stock bolt as tight as possible doesn't apply to Airacuda MAX. There's plastic support blocks available from Warranty Department, check out "Airacuda Updates," in AGN archives, starting around page 7, for more information. Had a loud clang in my .25 MAX, too, turned out builder never tightened stack bolt in shroud, so stripper and baffles clanged at every shot! Chinese Quality Control at its finest. WM

Thanks worriedman....I already heard about over tightening the stick bolt and so checked it. I had it loose enough the action would move when I would shake the gun and the mags are still tight. Where is the archives located I looked and never seen it.

Upper right corner of this page, type "Airacuda Updates," in Search window, you can add "WorriedMan," in Member Search window, but not really necessary. Start at Page 7, there's some sort of back and forth before, not essential to content. WM
