I am awaiting the new barrel. In the meantime I remove the choke as the bore has the tyhpical ring in it from a worn crown cutter guide. It was about 1 inch down inside the bore. I polsihce the crown after a light scurbbing withe jb bor paste and fkitz metal polish and the differences were dramatic.
Sadly, my own NOE hand cast pellets do not shoot well in it, however, they are more a .22 RF diameter. Micdn in a .223". I trued a few jsb 18's in it ands it shot under 1/2" at 50 yards most shots. It still has the velocity swings but I am making a new hammer guide rod not. this should cure it. the company has already ordered the new gide rod material.
For grins, while at wally world, I saw that they had two tins of the not so fantastic Crossman HP .22 pellets. They are notorious for differing weights and lack of precision sizes even worse. LOL! (Sure miss the old boxed. they were of excellent quality).
I had no delusion to what they would do. First mag was terrible, second was better and OMG! I started hand feeding them<(single load) and was rewarded with a 3/4" group. It kept improving and was down to 1/2". Decided t try a mag again and was pleasantly surprised. No change. still a very tight pattern for this type of sporter.
It is not unusual for a bbl. to need to lead in for a different pallet. I would halved liked to go back and re-try the JSB, but sadly, it is all I had. I haven't bought pellets before the Crossman's in well over 2 years. Seems the local small town Wally world is ending Gun and AG sales, so no more cheap pellets for me. These were 6.34 a tin. for 500. Finally found a gun what will shoot teem and NO More Pellets!!! GRRRRRRR
The hammer guide is a easy fix. I'' post more after making it and test.
Almost forgot, sot steel at 85 yards and it printed 1/12". Not super, but anyone can go to one of the weather type channels an see the wind velocities we are currently having. Man I hate wind almost as cold. Grrrrrr=Brrrrrr!!!!p
