Anyone use amsoil compressor oil?

Was searching for oil to use on my yong heng and found this oil. The said it last up to 8000 hours. So technically it will last the life time of the compressor meaning I have to never change the oil? Seem too good to be true. Cause I seen ppl changing their oil after 2-3 fills. Like wtf. I would like to go about 1000 fills before need to change oil.

i remember back in the day when they were developing synthetic oils, the would come to the local speedway my pop managed with test vehicles, and i watched as they destroyed motors until they finally got a product that wouldnt that they could sell to people for double the money .. i even accepted a free sample of some 'amsoil' synthetic wonder 2 stroke oil for my dirtbike which i rember having to rebuild my topend after a few tanks of that lol .. so is it good now ... oh im sure its fine .. wont catch me using it lol ..

These compressors we are using are not just compressors they are "dive compressors", "breathing air compressors"so although you may get by with the plain Jane compressor oil for awhile ,as I did, you may want to feed them the right stuff some day. That is dive compressor oil. Seco lube 500 is one of these oils there are several others made for the 4500psi compressors we use for our PCPs.

Are you talking about this oil?

Not sure if it matter which oil since these compressor are for airgun and not driving.

I run Amsoil in my low pressure compressors but I prefer Seco Lube 500 in high pressure compressors due to the higher flash point.

Detonation is what kills compressors like yong heng. The combination of heat and high compression will cause the lower flashpoint oil to ignite exactly the same as a diesel engine fires. Detonation wipes out the top of the secondary piston in a second and crushes the top of the primary piston. I was running royal purple when my yong heng made a few death clunks so I learned my lesson. By the time you hear it the damage is done.

Hi

I have received a Yong Heng pre-filled by retailer with this oil, any comments on its suitability?

Regards.

Reciprocating (Piston) air compressor oil

Shell Corena S2 P is high quality air compressor oil designed to deliver the lubrication performance for high pressure reciprocating compressors. It is suitable for most reciprocating air compressors running at up to 220 degrees Celsius discharge temperatures at elevated pressures.

Conventional technology

ISO viscosity grade: 100 (Also available in 68 and 150)

Industry standards: ISO 6743-3A DAA (normal duty).

Shell Corena is not a diester synthetic and has a much lower flashpoint of 464f vs 520f for Seco 500. The shell oil has the same flashpoint as royal purple which detonated and ruined the pistons in my yong heng.

I will only run Seco 500 since the cost over time is insignificant.

now that’s a very good point being high pressure compressor! Gonna have to get me a quart to use even though my YH seems to be very happy with just good old transmission oil (hydronic oil with extra detergent), more so than much more expensive royal purple. Flash point is pretty low at 300 degrees compared to seco’s 500 degrees.

thanks for the great info.

You should never run detergent oil in anything without a pump and filter because it has additives to keep contaminates suspended in the oil so the filter can remove them.

Anything without a pump and filter uses non-detergent oil so the contaminates settle to the bottom of the sump where they stay for the life of the unit or until physically removed.

When contaminates are suspended in the oil of anything splash lubed they become embedded in the bearings and cause excessive wear.

WHOA!!! Thanks for great info, it does make a lot of sense! Learn something new everyday I tell ya! LOL!!!

So the service life of that oil is like a million year, where is a good place to buy a quart? Amazon doesn’t have it beside 1 Gallon version that’s twice as expensive as other sites?

No just change it when it starts looking dirty or the recommended service interval.

On a new compressor I'd run the cheaper oil for the first hour and then change to the good oil.

This lets your primary piston rings get seated well before changing to the Seco 500.

Change it at least yearly after that.

I've never done business with these people but they have it. https://www.starairsystems.com/parts-accessories/oil/seco-lube-500-synthetic-quart

Here's what I use, because Ingersoll Rand specialize in compressors and the like. It has a pretty high flash point and readily available at places like Tractor Supply, Grainger, ect. I change it out fairly often so the oil is not broken down and possibly wanting to detonate from heat and contaminate buildup. It is pricey but worth it for convenience availability. The Material Safety Data Sheets state who makes and or bottles your oils and such. You would be surprised what you see when looking at them.
