AirMaks Arms Anything better for the price than an Airmaks Katran SC for a backpack gun?

My Caiman X gets about 50 shots at 38 fpe using 21 grain H&N slugs. I use an additional moderator for shooting in my yard but I don't think you would loose your hearing to just use the built in. I think the short one would be louder. It has a modular moderator built in and you are supposed to be able to add modules but I've never found them for sale. My X is a 22. Even if the short one was 100 fps slower it would be fine for small game. My guess is the short one in 25 would give you over 40 fpe but would struggle to get over 50. The interior passages are bigger than my P35s but the barrel is shorter and I think it holds less air.

Is there anything else that is just as short, good ergos and around the same price?

A Caiman X in 25 should be able to get about 60 fpe. For hunting the built in moderator (which screws off) should be fine. I shot a 200 on the 30 yard challenge with my 22 X. It's accurate with pellets and slugs. I don't think you need 60 fpe for small game but for coyote or big raccoons it would be good to have.

I can build you a custom gun for far less and be just as dependable. Might get in trouble for the offer but full un-edited video proof before payment. Risk is on my for the investment in the build.

6 position adjustable stock with an adjustable cheeck rest. 12" barrel with functional shroud including an internal airstripper. All internal parts are custom. Can go shorter if needed. Only a 200 bar fill vs 300 with the Katran. Plus this gets more shots per fill even with half the air.

Does the caiman x have a decent moderator built in? Or do you need to add to it.
the .25 in the caiman x is tempting

I had one in .25 and in my opinion it definitely needs an additional moderator.

I haven't messed with it yet but I suspect the low regulator setting (100 bar on my 22) and light valve return spring is keeping the valve open too long making it nosier than it has to be. I've raised the regulator to 120 bar but not removed the Tanto to check noise. I may also look for a stronger return spring.
