AOA Extreme Field Target Grand Prix – (Friday and Saturday Mornings)

Air Guns of Arizona Grand Prix Rules link

Extreme Benchrest Rules - Extreme Benchrest

Extreme Benchrest competition rules in Arizona. Shooting at 75 yards and 100 yards, this multi-day competition takes Benchrest to the Extreme!
extremebenchrest.com

The Extreme Field Target Event will be limited to 60 competitors with match time starting for all competitors at 10:00 am, Friday and Saturday mornings. sight in will be open at least by 8;am. We will have 12.5 lanes, 25 targets, with 4-5 competitors per squad, depending on the number of contestants.

There will be two targets per lane with two shots on each. 100fpe & .30 caliber or less only. Your scope power must be set to 32 or less.

The targets are mostly swingers with backstops that will be painted white so you can see your misses. Any movement of the spinner is considered a hit. The non-shooting squad mates will time, score and spot for the shooting competitor. If you have a spotting scope or binoculars, please bring them.

Competitors will have 3 min. to take their 4 shots. Each hit will count for 5 points, for 250 points possible; matching up with the total possible in the 100 yard Bench Rest and the Big Bore matches so we can have the Combined Awards too.

Targets will be placed at 25 yards to 100 yards. The smallest spinner is 7/8” and largest is 4”. One lane will be supported, standing offhand.

Combined Two Best Scores Bonus Prize

The best two of your scores will be counted in the bonus prize money for the Combined Best Scores awards.
You could have a single day score in EBR or EFT to pick your best two scores plus your Big Bore score if you shoot that also.
If you make the finals in the EBR then that card is also one that can be chosen for your best two.

You can enter in all three events: Extreme Field Target - 100 yard Bench Rest - 150- 370 yard Big Bore Challenge, or just one and your still entered in the Combined Score scoring for prizes.

100 yard Bench Rest – (Friday and Saturday Afternoons)

The bench rest relays will be shot Friday and Saturday after the field target and lunch, starting at 1:00 pm. If we have full attendance, then there will be 4 relays of 15 competitors, allowing for 60 total participants. There will be 25 min to shoot your card and 5 min to remove your equipment from the bench. Relay start times will be reversed for the second card on Saturday. Your best single card will be chosen to add to your other best score, pulled from up to three other events, to determine your score in the bonus Extreme Combined Challenge. If you are lucky enough to make the 15 top finalists for Sunday, then we include that card in determining your best two cards. But then again, you don’t have to make the finals in bench rest to win big in the combined prizes. You might shoot one really great card in qualifying but poop out on your second card and not make the finals with your two card total... but maybe a great EFT day or in the Big Bore.

The finals winners in the 100 yard Bench Rest are chosen by the combined three days cards, not the best card/score on Sunday’s match.

150 to 370 yard Big Bore Challenge

The Big Bore Challenge will be contested in the afternoons Friday and Saturday, like the 100 yard Bench Rest, and I’ve tried to allow as much time between your relays in each event as possible.

We will have 5 lanes/benches with only one “Tridrant” target on each lane at distances between 100 and 370 yards. Hitting the center bull spinner will be worth 10 points and the outside 2 side swingers will be worth 5 points each creating a possible 50 points per lane, or 250 points for the match.

You will get 5 mins to take your 5 shots, plus 5 min to get moved and setup on the next bench, before the next 5 min clock starts. Competitors waiting, and those who have shot already, will be encouraged to help with the scoring and spotting for those shooting. Filling your gun during the 5 min shoot time is allowed, but it must be kept on the shooting bench and pointed downrange at all times. Up to 30 competitors will shoot Friday and the same on Saturday.

In order for the prizes to be $1,000 & $1,500 for first place in Combined, and award prizes down to 5th place, the match fees need to be $100 per event. If you register for all 3, then the price is only $250… AND you have 3 chances for two good winning scores and a better chance at the extra combined prize money. With the total entries limited to 60, the odds of at least getting match fees back are pretty good.

IF you win all 3 events, you would bag $4,500 in total cash and prizes. AND, you don’t have to pay for events you don’t plan on competing in. EVEN if you only register for 1 event, you still have a chance to win some combined prize money.

I prefer emailing me for a registration form and using PayPal as a friend or mailing back the form with a check.. Bank processing fees are nastily high. Or the website will soon have registration available at airgunoregon.com

I'm on the other side of the country. But I'm curious what is the range of calibers for "big bore" air gun? Also, can you use any calibers you like for 100y BR?

New to all this and trying to figure out how these kind of events work & what gear I can use.
There won't be a limit on foot lbs or caliber for this big bore event, but the Arizona and Utah events rules can vary depending on the events. AoA had a min 200fpe to make the targets function last year. Some manufactures (AEA) now have 72 cal. I shot one and don't want to shoot it again:) But I like their 58 and 45 cal a lot better, my favorite is the .357 It can still reach and it's a lot easier to break your shot on target.

100 yard is usually limited to .30 or 35 cal and less pellets and no slugs. .22 can be great with the right pellets and barrels, but .25 cal seemed to be the most popular and did well in the wind last year.

100 yard Bench Rest – (Friday and Saturday Afternoons)

The bench rest relays will be shot Friday and Saturday after the field target and lunch, starting at 1:00 pm. There will be 4 relays of 15 competitors, allowing for 60 total participants. 150 to 370 yard Big Bore Challenge

The Big Bore Challenge will be contested in the afternoons Friday and Saturday, like the 100 yard Bench Rest, and I’ve tried to allow as much time between your relays in each event as possible.

We will have 5 lanes/benches with only one “Quadrant” target on each lane at distances between 150 and 370 yards. Hitting the center bull spinner will be worth 10 points and the outside 4 square swingers will be worth 5 points each for a possible 50 points per lane, or 250 points for the match.

You will get 5 mins to take your 5 shots, plus 3 min to get moved and setup on the next bench, before the next 5 min clock starts. Up to 30 competitors will shoot Friday and the same on Saturday.

150 to 370 yard Air Gun Big Bore vs Cowboy Firearm Challenge

The top 15 winners from the Air Gun Big Bore Challenge will be offered a spot, with 15 Cowboy/Girl Firearm competitors. The Match relays will start Sunday morning at 9:00am and should finish up by noon or so.

Acceptable firearms/ammo include any pistol ammo commonly used to shoot Cowboy Action events, shot in any rifle; like a 225gr .45 cal. long colt shot in a Marlin 1894 lever action rifle. Basically, Sub-Sonic Black Powder ammo only is allowed. Just trying to get the trajectory and power levels fairly close to the Big Bore air rifles. Any sights or scopes are allowed. Kentucky long rifles are encouraged!! Distance to the targets will be posted. We plan to call a cold line and repaint the targets once per hour.

The firearm entry spots will first be offered to competitors that didn’t compete in any of the Air Gun Events, but if there are any spots available the morning of the match, then air gun competitors can take those spots based on a first come, first serve waiting list. A list will be available to pre-sign up. If you don’t have, or don’t want to bring yours, I will have my .45LC Marlin 1894, dialed in and available for a run thru the line…. For a price of course to cover ammo etc. J

In order for the prizes to be $1,000 & $1,500 for first place, and award prizes down to 5th place, and also award the Combined Prizes & Big Bore/Firearm event, the match fees need to be $100 per event. If you register for all 3, then the price is only $250… AND you potentially have 4 chances for two good winning scores and a better chance at the extra combined prize money. With the total entries limited to 60, the odds of at least getting match fees back are pretty good.

IF you win all 4 events, you would bag $5,500 in total cash and prizes. AND, you don’t have to pay for events you don’t plan on competing in. EVEN if you only register for 2 events, you still have a chance to win some combined prize money.

Big bore I believe has a minimum caliber of .257? In order to impact the heavier targets and make em move. Sick photo of the loggerhea shrike in your profile pic. The butcher bird is one of my favorites.

We made a new design of targets that will move with 30fpe at the target with hopes that competitors can play our big bore game with their EFT and EBR equipment, by just changing to slugs and maybe increasing their power a little... so there is no min of caliber size at our event. Some of the new slugs have a BC of .17 and more even, so if you are shooting 50fpe at the muzzle, you still have 30fpe at the target with a good slug.

Also, after talking with some of the competitors, we have decided to split off the 365 yard Big Bore target for a separate side shoot for those that want to reach out that far. Most competitors will choose to shoot the five targets from 100 to 260 yards. We think this will open up the game to more competitors who don't want to invest in a gun just to play the Big Bore game.

Thats awesome put me on the waiting list then and I’ll bring the slugs! Cheers

We finally got all the berms laid out and built.. and three of the six targets for the "Long Range" & "Big Bore" contests all set up and tested. The distances will start at 125 yards, then, 145, 175, 195, 260 for "Long Range Class" and add the 365 for the "Big Bore Class" Big Bore will shoot the last five benches and targets and "Long Range Class" will shoot the first five.

Yardage- 125 - 10 point bull = 2" and 5 point out side paddles = 12" x 12"
Yardage- 145 - 10 point bull = 2.5" and 5 point out side paddles = 12" x 12"
Yardage- 175 - 10 point bull = 3" and 5 point out side paddles = 15" x 15"
Yardage- 195 - 10 point bull = 4.5" and 5 point out side paddles = 18" x 18"
Yardage- 260 - 10 point bull = 6" and 5 point out side paddles = 24" x 24"
Yardage- 360 - 10 point bull = 10" and 5 point out side paddles = 36" x 36" (This will be a paper/cardboard target, so lower fpe equipment, can still play if they feel they can reach it)

Again, the game will be 5 shots from each bench at one distance at a time. 5 mins to shoot, and 3 mins to move to the next bench. If you hit the 10 point paddle every time you get a perfect 250 score.. just like the 100 yard bench rest. Same idea for the EFT event.

With some of the new slugs, a 50-70fpe EBR or EFT rig should be able to play at least the first five targets and do well.

Wayne

Because so many competitors don't have access to a range to practice the 125 to 360 yard distances... and because the wind is to tricky at this location, practice on the long range targets will be open all day Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoons with the match held on Sunday morning before the 100 yard finals match.
This way also we should be done in the early afternoon so we can eat and do the awards early enough for folks to get traveling home well before dark.

Wayne

Just an update on the upcoming event.

We set the new Extreme Field Target course today. I stretched it from 25 yards to 115 this year so be ready for that! I'll post the actual distances in a day or two when I put a range finder on them.
I decided to move the EFT shooting line closer to the creek and take advantage of the curve of the creek to "fan" the target lanes a little for more separation of targets in a more condensed shooting line, with the purpose of keeping open the 100y BR, Long Range and Big Bore open for practice for those not shooting EFT at all times. Long Range and Big can practice all day Thursday, Friday and Saturday now.... with the finals of 100y BR on Sunday morning and the Long Range & Big Bore match just after... then awards in early afternoon we hope.

Again, if you think you might want to come and join the fun, then get off that fence... ( it must be uncomfortable up there anyway:)))) and let me know.. I've got room for about fie or six more competitors.

It's gonna be fun.

Here is an update on the EFT rules that I was asked to clarify; When shooting the Extreme Field Target event, the competitor must have both feet flat on the ground.

As far as the points for the AOA Extreme Grand Prix:

It looks like we should have about 35-40 playing EFT, so if only 34, then I have 7 points to distribute, and if 35 to 44, then 8 points.

so if 7 then:
3 for 1st
2 for 2nd
1 for 3rd
1 for 4th

if it's 8 points with 35 to 44 EFT competitors:
3 for 1st
2 for 2nd
1 for 3rd
1 for 4th
1 for 5th

If 1st can not be more than 3 that's the best I can figure out for the AOA Grand Prix points.

Wayne

Here is the first day scoreboard:

The winds were pretty crazy today, day one. It let up a lot for relay three of the EBR match.. as some of the scores show.
