I spotted for Mike in the long range match. Impressive shooting. And I was impressed with the Altaros slugs. Altaros slugs were used by Mike for 1st (49.5gr .25) and 2nd for Gabe (40gr .22). I shot my 7mm and got 3rd place shooting a 107gr cast NOE BBT slug.
Targets were at about 118, 141, 166, 188, 230, and 362yds. Five shots at each. Though we could throw out either the 118 or 362yd target, and keep 25 shots for score. Going in, I expected that the lower energy slug guns could be more accurate than the big bore airguns. My 7mm holds together well at long distances, but it’s not a 1moa gun. The 118yd target was the toughest from an MOA measurement. I’m fairly certain that I was the only competitor who threw out that target score. I don’t remember any of the 100fpe guns connecting for a ten point hit on the 362yd target, though I saw a few big bores (over 200fpe) do so.
The match was formatted so that lower powered slug guns could compete with the big bores. It brought more competitors into the long range game. Now I want Altaros to make cnc slugs for my .257 and 7mm.
