are all valve threads the same?

Greetings,

I need another tank, and I've been looking at the Carleton tanks listed on Ebay such as the one below. They have abnormal valves, so that would have to be changed, but can I be fairly sure they're the same thread everyone else uses? In other words, will a typical firefighter SCBA valve fit this? I did ask the seller, but no reply yet.

All of my SCBA tanks have 7/8 x 14 threads. I have a Scott and two Interspiro, can't say for the Carlton, but since all the SCBA bottles that are for sale on eBay are made in the USA, they more than likely have the same threads...

I'm assuming that you already have your own HP Air Compressor? That tank you linked to is expired. The SCBA tanks have a 15 year service life, plus they must have a hydro test every 5 years. It would be best to buy a tank with a manufacture date of at least early 2005 so you can get two or more years service from it. Don't forget if it doesn't have a current (within 5 year) hydro, you'll also need to get that done, at a cost of approx. $30. 

This one seems like a good deal, and already has a current hydro test.

Just as a follow-up, I got the tank, and it's REALLY nice. The thing looks as close to new as you can imagine inside and out. The threads are indeed 7/8-14, and the goofy valve is a lanyard activated inflation device used for life rafts. Considering it's intended use, it's easy to imagine that it's only had a few pressure cycles, and it's clearly been sheltered from the elements. I like the tank so much I ordered a second one, and will discontinue use of my old beat up Scott tank.

Just browsing old threads..

There are two thread sizes spec'ed for the US. Most SCBA threads are the 7/8. Once you get to 114 cu in, and down to paintball, you'll find the 5/8. There is a good spec on these, AS5202. The 5/8 thread is defined as AS5202-7. US tanks are certified by DOT.

In Europe, almost all thanks use the M18-1.5 thread. The certification on these tanks is PI.
