I've been looking at .30 cal to take down some of the yote population I hunt at along with other pests (groundhogs mostly). And I'm really on the fence about what gun to get. I'm really thinking of getting an FX Maverick VP, seems to fill in everything I would want. Short, great aftermarket support, slug shooter, isn't super heavy, accurate (from what I heard), and more then enough power for me. But the price is a lot to take. I'm really worried about buyer remorse.

I've had 3 PCP rifles now, all under a grand (Avenge-X, Notos, and an AEA Element Max). And I have been happy with them. Are +1k guns really worth it? For that matter are +2k guns worth it? You guys/gals that bought these higher end guns, do you feel you got your money worth?

Yes. If you stick to hobbies and make things work how you want them to, the expensive guns have been the most rewarding to me in my 30 years of airguns and 25 years of powder burners. Some of them are for tuners (most fx) and not "i spent a lot of money and it doesn't make it's own ammo and air out of the box" type guys

I wish I skipped about 12 airguns and 5 compressors and just went big the first time and saved money in reality.

I started pcp converting crosman 13xx and 22xx, then a Marauder for many years. And in came an impact m3, then a garbage rod aea hpss, and recently a dreamtac compact carbon bottle (the most used of the bunch).

I'm addicted to building things and pcp guns are fun when you can adjust every aspect.

All I can say is FX gets a lot of press. There are quite a few out there in the same/less price range that will do the same thing out of box. In a lot of cases better IMO. Then you'll be spending more money on the FX after the initial purchase to get it to perform as well as the others. Of course, to each their own.

If you can put an fx liner on them, as an fx guy, then I think you have gotten most important thing fx offers besides machining quality. Barrel swapping umarex is what I suggest to my local beginner pals.

If you're wondering if I regret purchasing inexpensive units to start? That is a hard NO! They all have a purpose and I use them all.

Now then, I was never 100% content until I purchased high end units. Trust me, there is a difference but, if it sits in your gun safe unused then, it is a total waste of cash that could have been used for other things.

You gatta use them! (y);)

All I'm saying is there are other options. My first high end pcp was a maverick sniper.
FX preys on newer guys with infomercials on youtube that are made by financially interested parties and made to look like an unbiased review and prepping people for upgrade purchases. I agree there's other good options, id say just beware the stuff produced by the places that make aea and a couple others. I have a bone to pick there tho tbf 🤣. Fx isnt for most people imho, they just market like crazy.

Absolutely!
I jumped right into PCP’s 6yrs ago with the buy once cry once mentality. I picked up an FX Crown and couldn’t be happier.
A couple years ago I just had to see what all the excitement was over the new Avenger.
Was it accurate? Sure, but build quality was pretty dreadful.
My Crown costs 5X as much but it’s 10X the gun.

I get it. I bought a Taipan vet2 while I waited for my $1800 maverick to get warranty repairs. I still have the Taipan

of course they’re worth it… to a point…. If you have the money
it’s all for that last 5% of performance.
most I’ve spent is $900 on a unregulated daystate revere 25 . Yes it was a mistake, I read all about 25 revere’s after I purchased. That’s for another topic I will post after I’m done with the new huma regulator and just received gauge connector from Bagnall and Kirkwood.

My ZELOS 22 amazes me for $420 , will a $2000+ m4 be better ? I hope so cause it’s on my list of a premium- expensive
gun

I wouldnt recommend high end pcp rifles to anybody that would send them back for a warranty repair. That's just me tho and most problems are simple leaks or adjustments on a new platform with a steep learning curve. Sending a component back, I get.

shooting short range with my M8 shooting rock bottom brand / model rifles,,,,,, lets just say doing that i am not at all happy about my much more expensive rifles,
But the moment we get past the 50 M mark / papers, and my M8 throw in the towel, though i must say his Snowpeak M30 did seem to shoot 10 grain slugs to 120 yards pretty damn well, so i am not looking forward to testing that again.

I will say overall, say with 5 different pellets and a few weights of slugs, my rifles are far more capable, but i am starting to question things i have to admit.

I voted yes but 2K is pushing it, that is also just about what i get in pension every month.
I would for damn sure never be able to justify 3K this side of a lotto win.

It had the wrong regs in it. I'm not repairing something I spent that much money on. Just because I'm a mechanic doesn't mean I would fix a brand new car I just bought. Just because I can. It's a mater of principle

I have only a little skin in this game. I have a used FX Streamline, got a good deal and I enjoy it. I also have several other brands and I like them for different reasons and if I had extra discretional spending allowance I may own one more FX above the $1,000 dollar price range. I have tinkered with a few and did small modifications and minor repairs. To me that is enjoyable as well as pesting and shooting, even more so when I shoot and don't miss. I guess it depends ultimately on your needs, wants and bank account. But if money is what stops you from enjoying something, then is it really worth it?

It all depends on you! How much money you have, how much you shoot, how mechanically capable you are, how demanding you are, etc... if you're somewhat wealthy, do a lot of shooting and demand the ultimate in performance then they're absolutely worth it. If you're a noob to airguns, make less than $50k a year and are happy with 1" groups at 50 yards then you're wasting your money on a $2000 gun.

And some people are capable of building up a cheap rifle to rival the performance of high end airguns. For them the expensive guns might not be worth it either.

Depends what you want. I have a Vulcan 3 in 30cal (about $1500) that I love and it shoots sub MOA @ 100 yds and I'm shooting about 120fpe which is more than enough for coyote. The ONLY downside to my Vulcan 3 is that it is not externally adjustable. I like playing with different size slugs and testing them out so that is kind of a bummer but if you don't mind finding a slug you like and just tuning it and leaving it then it's fine. The BRK Ghost was one I looked at and is externally tunable but passed because it is 2k+. Here's a headshot (my favorite video) on a rock squirrel @ 90 yards...it's accurate!! At 90yds my drop is about 2 mils...dead on!

Not saying the more expensive aren't worth it but if you don't want or need to be constantly playing with different slug weights and tuning it then something like the Vulcan 3 might be an option.
