I've been looking at .30 cal to take down some of the yote population I hunt at along with other pests (groundhogs mostly). And I'm really on the fence about what gun to get. I'm really thinking of getting an FX Maverick VP, seems to fill in everything I would want. Short, great aftermarket support, slug shooter, isn't super heavy, accurate (from what I heard), and more then enough power for me. But the price is a lot to take. I'm really worried about buyer remorse.

I've had 3 PCP rifles now, all under a grand (Avenge-X, Notos, and an AEA Element Max). And I have been happy with them. Are +1k guns really worth it? For that matter are +2k guns worth it? You guys/gals that bought these higher end guns, do you feel you got your money worth?

Is a top tier PCP worth it?

Yes, definitely but keep in mind that they are purpose driven and depending on the purpose you want to buy one, they can be very valuable or a waste of money.

I have the FX Maverick Sniper, it has the carbon fiber bottle and the 700mm liner. From the bench, it's fantastic but humping it through the woods is unpleasant.

The Maverick VP with the aluminum bottle is the same weight and you will not be happy with that weight after carrying the Notos around.

I have a Notos (several of them actually) too, the AEA Sniper and others in that price range like the JTS Max that shoot well but pale in comparison to the Maverick.

I recommend other guns right now over the Maverick, see what's out there first.

Whether guns, cars, clothes, etc., is high quality ever "worth it"? There is always an "affordable" option that gets the job done. I grew up quail hunting with an inexpensive autoloader. As an old guy, I carried a $5K Italian 20 ga sxs. I killed more birds with the cheap autoloader, but I enjoyed hunting more with the doublegun.

I am sure that a $2000 air gun is better than a $500 air gun.
But it is usually a little better, not 4 times better.

If you have the money and participate in competitions then maybe it would be worth it.
The samples I have the budget pcps are a lot of fun, but miles behind the expensive options. They really arent comparable in any practical way. Budget pcps have really improved over the last 2-3 years though.

FX - Are expensive PCPs worth it?

Why didn't you straight up ask what you actually want to ask?

"Are FX PCPs worth their price?"
The only reason I put FX in the subject is because that is currently what I am looking at. The question itself is for any gun that is considered in the high price range. I'm trying to get a feel for how the community feels about expensive PCP rifles.
I'm not just looking at FX rifles, just that the Maverick VP caught my eye. The Vulcan 3 that Zeke mentioned also looks appealing as well.

I love my m4 but its for trade or sale at anytime because a high end fx gun gives you leverage in the market for trade and resell. When the economy is good and people have money fx guns sell like hot cakes! I bet there'd be no used gun if cordova offered loans for airgun nation for sale market!!

In airguns like in any other hobby, there will be things that after a price the rest you pay for the brand , if you want compete you will need the best adjustability to drive the slug or pellet at the best speed possible depending where de competition is. The problem with FX is that at first, there where not really good explanations about tuning + a really bad quality control, to much youtube of people doing amazing shots with especially shosen parts n liners by the man it self .. but the bullers here where pretty far from the youtube results .. So the solve these by saying that it was only a experienced shooters..they should had said experienced mecanic, if you don't know how to fix your FX don't buy it .. try to get every tools necessary to deal with it .. me personally I don't compete I never will.. have used my friend impact, and other FX guns never like them enough to buy one especially because I don't have the talent or patience to deal with them. I would have to ship them to the states every time I get a problem , and these days that only is a $220 in shipping, so no I have choose guns that require little to no repairs.. pcps are getting better n better soon for the every day shooter for 50 to 70y that could be the most people have aviable..a $600 to $900 gun will be just fine ..

I've got perhaps 5 expensive PCP's depending on how you define expensive.

1) Western Sidewinder in .30 with extra mags and a wood stock. This one would be an expensive rifle in most anyone's estimate. My three gripes about it are that it's loud and magazines way too expensive and their capacity is too low. Other than that it's been fantastic. It's powerful and very accurate.
2, 3) Huben K1. I've got two of these in .22. I got the second one used at a very low price, so that's why I have two of the same rifle. A K1 is about $1800 new so I'd consider it an expensive rifle, but some might not. They're also a powerful and an accurate rifle and I don't think you can find any semi-auto under $1000 that can match them for either power or accuracy.
4) Huben GK1. I've got one of these in .25 and I don't think there's an air pistol out there that can match it overall. At $1200 it might not be what some consider expensive however.
5) AirArms S410E. When I bought this around 25 years ago it cost me around $850 and I considered it expensive at the time. Back then, it's performance just blew me away. I'd never handled an airgun that was so accurate, powerful and quiet and I considered it to be worth every penny. Nowadays you can get an Avenger that can do everything an AirArms can do for 1/2 the price, but it still won't look as nice.

I have 6 pcps, 5 that cost less than $500 and one that cost $1400. My favorites are the 3 P35s which cost less than $500 each. They are lighter than any high end gun I am aware of and my P35-22 is just as accurate as my Caiman X (both have given me one 200 on the 30 yard challenge). The Caiman is obviously better machined and it's trigger pull is more consistent but it's significantly heavier and while with the right projectile it could be more powerful with the one it prefers it is tied with the P35-22 (both with essentially the stock tune). The Caiman also arrived with a terribly adjusted trigger and a badly assembled regulator that stopped working. My P35-22 has been with me a year longer and hasn't even needed an O-ring. Maybe there used to be a big gap but now I think cheaper guns are functionally equivalent for most purposes.

Interesting looking at the poll so far?

_ 45.7 % say YES
_ 21.7 % say YES but 2K is too much
Total = 67.4%

I'm not one to bash any one's choice as we all are different and use our guns for our intended purpose. I'll say it again, I was happy with what I had until I joined this forum and started reading the TRUTH of the user groups and not being influenced by marketers opinions.

That is either genocide or lunch for 5 people.

You do not need an FX for squirrel genocide.
Using an air gun to kill squirrels is way to easy to be a sport.

Manly men do it with a slingshot or a bow and arrow or just chase them in the trees.
