Are Taipan Veterans pellet picky?

The choke is right around .216 and I have used NOE bullet sizers to make my own slug sizes. I used the 17 gr NSA slugs and they were doing well at or around .216. When I left them unsized at .217 they were slow and inaccurate.

Nick from Nielsen Ammo sent me an email and said he believes. 216 is the correct diameter for the .22 Taipan Vet. I ordered 300 of the 17.5g slugs to try out. I'll give an update after a get to play some.

Also ordered 2 boxes .217" in 17.5 and 20g for the Maverick. 50 bucks down the rabbit hole .

Nielson Ammo sells sample packs, great idea! Highly recommended to buy some sampler packs, shoot them and see which ones shoot the best.

I was lucky with my rifle, it seems to shoot everything good enough for hunting accuracy as long as I stay below 930 fps. After that the groups opened up too much.

Great hunting rifle, works great with a rifle sling.

What Nick told you matches my experiences exactly. The 24.8 grain were moderately accurate in both .216" and .2165" but the larger diameters were not. I think the choked barrels are to blame.

I'll say it again...try the FX Hybrid slugs in the Veteran Taipan. In mine they are extremely accurate out to the 100 meters that I've shot them and they shoot dimes all day at 50 meters. They also don't require big power which the Vet Taipan isn't designed for anyway.

My theory is that the mostly hollow Hybrid's allow them to conform more easily in choked barrels. Whatever the case is the Hybrid's are literally the most accurate projectile I've ever shot from the 700mm CZ barrel on my Taipan.

I have fx hybrids in .217 and tried them , they were very tight to chamber in the vet . I'm personally not trying to make the TV a slug shooter that's why I'm only trying the 17.5g slugs. Should be easy to push at speed . I might try some FX hybrids in .216 if they make them.

The other slugs including FX hybrids are for the Maverick . The TV gets the pellet hunting spot , and I have turned power down from 35 fpe to 30 .

I really like the single shot tray . So easy to load.

Prod is 12- 13 fpe
Urban is around 23-24 fpe
Taipan is 30-35 fpe
Maverick is 40-45 fpe
.25 origin is 50-60 fpe
I could probably fit some more between them..... Actually my hw95 is about 17 fpe and the hw30 is around 6-7 fpe. Lol
