Are there any differences on benchrest that you'd do between air rifle and shooting 308?

Absolutely.

My Browning X bolt will bruise you up pretty bad after a days shooting if you dont have a good bag on your shoulder. You really have to pull the gun in and that messes with POA.

I can shoot any of my air rifles in the sld without touching the gun except for my index finger for true precision.

Both have merits.

There are a few differences, mostly related to being subsonic vs supersonic. Pellets vs bullets (if using pellets). Recoil management is different but the recoil does need to be managed….there are differences in ‘free recoil’ between different setups. Projectiles to barrel fit are not standardized and so there are more combinations to try but that rabbit hole can be like drinking from a fire hose.

I have learned that air is picky about everything in one’s setup. I assume it’s due to the relatively long time it remains in the barrel that allows for all the flies to get in the house, so to speak.

Quite a few more I’m sure I’m missing but there are obvious carry overs. Trigger control, solid rest, good glass, etc. are some of the basics. If doing your own smithing, taper lapped barrel, solid bedding, heavier weight barrel, etc. still apply.

Just my experiences between the two so far, I’m still absorbing it all though.
