Are you kidding me?! Air guns ARE REAL GUNS!!!

Hello there. That is normal on anyone that normally shoots Firearms and no Airguns.

From time to time I get that too, and for the "audience" I say: Yes you are totally right, this are toys compared with firearms. And IMO we should all do the same, lets keep ush ush about the real FPE some airguns have to avoid politicians get into our game.

I will say: let's keep making think "outsiders" that airguns are toys! ;) toys from 10 fpe up to over 1000 fpe

shhhhhhh🙊

I agree that they are real guns, but as someone with a quite extensive collection of firearms, I am happy for people to continue to think of airguns as “toys”. It allows me to get them shipped to me by mail, shoot in my backyard, and generally avoid all the hassles that are associated with my “real” guns.

I think it is wise to be cautious here. Seeing this happen with multi rotor aircraft as people keep bringing the capabilities of the newer smaller craft to the attention of the FAA. Multirotor aircraft Over certain size have to be tagged with certain identification numbers, and it looks like they will soon have to actually carry tracking beacons. Craft that we less than 250 g are not regulated but more and more now people are finding ways to squeeze advanced technology into the smaller craft giving them capabilities that normally were only found in the larger regulated aircraft. Kind of like air guns. Treated as a separate category but more and more people trying to show off how they can blur the lines. How could that possibly work out well?

This already feels like a pretty huge government invasion of a long established safe hobby, as it’s turning the hobby into a overregulated expensive and cumbersome thing. When people take small unregulated aircraft and fly them over huge distances using VR without following regulations and then post these flights on YouTube, they bring all the wrong kind of attention. Showing off the capabilities of extreme versions is asking for someone to impose limits

I can absolutely imagine this happening with airguns and in the not too distant future.

Ditto Chris. Ditto. I can’t tell you how many times I have been to a “real gun” range and drawn a crowd when they heard (or really didn’t hear) my Field Target rig, RAW HM1000 and huge 50x scope. Then when they saw the accuracy they couldn’t believe it. Even my .25 Marauder draws crowds.

I took my FX Crown to the rifle range a couple of weeks ago (I usually shoot it in my own 4 acre property). All the guys there were stunned by the 100 yard group that i shot with a “toy”. Suddenly they were interested. Many were shocked when they heard the cost however....

@thumper, it isn’t going to be the big bore really, I think, it is the full auto guns that will draw the attention, and most true big bore are single shot rifles. I have a single shot Thomas Center back home in Idaho in .223 and .308 barrels, when I mention the single shot capability of the rifle, even anti-gunners for most part says that is okay.

"With great power comes great responsibility" - there's a whole new generation of semi-auto airguns coming in the next couple of years. I have no doubt with semi marauder on the way along with the Leshiy 2 that other companies are going to be presenting semi options as well in the next few years. Keep it safe and keep it discrete and we'll enjoy our hobby unregulated for longer.

Speaking about the US - My worry is that as airguns continue to increase in power and capability that at some point the politicians are going to get involved and start putting restrictions on both the airgun industry and us as shooters. Those of us who know - know. If the majority want's to think of them as toys then that's OK with me. But - given what the restrictions are in England and various other countries - its just a matter of time until some politician in the US wants to get famous by bringing these "weapons" to the forefront for regulation and restrictions.

Personally, I do not consider airguns as real guns in any way shape or form. The vast majority of airguns are plainly just toys when compared to firearms. Very few airguns can even come close to a quarter of the fpe of the lowly .22 rimfire so it is good they are seen as the toys most are as it keeps airguns out of many legal battles. We should not be worried about what others think about our sport unless they are trying to limit it in some way. We know what our guns are capable of and that's what really matters.

I almost always encounter “oh my brother has an air soft gun too”. Here in Oregon everyone think airguns are airsoft guns.

As mentioned, I don’t need a 150gr bullet to punch paper. I do love some reloading and benchrest shooting projects though.

In Ireland there was a dude shooting people from a balcony using a semi auto pcp if I remember. That was the impetus for changing all the laws and “waking the public up”.

Im with Thumper in many ways. I like big bore airguns as a novelty that someone like Quackenbush puts out. I feel like PCP airguns are being marketed to the AR and “predator” “hunting” crowd pretty hard...

Well, i have mixed opinions about semi-auto/full auto guns. 3 of my 4 handguns are semi auto along with shotguns and two rifles, (powder burners). However, with air rifles, I am mixed as I said, and it comes down to the latitude we get with air rifles, that you don’t with firearms and I am sure most people know what I mean. (Won’t go further...edging into politics.).

Anyways, we have a great thing going so lets keep it that way. Be the best example you can be and best to others about the joys of air guns.

Why do you want airgun to be label as real guns. Airgun are not firearm or real gun. They are adult toy guns, keep it that way please so we dont get restriction on our airguns. Do you want the feds to knock on your door for a LDC and say its a silencer without a serial number and $200 stamp for it? Its a felony to have a silencer without the proper papers for it you know? You wanna go to jail for owning a airgun LDC?

Use firearm terminology and watch the eyes open up. Speak in ME, MV, FPS, and bullet weights.

I have a few friends who reacted in a similar fashion until I said -- "I'm slinging 14.3gr @ 865 FPS with a moderator AND 500 rounds cost me $8.00 USD AND I don't have to wear hearing protection AND I don't have to clean my air rifle after every shooting session"

After this they will understand and be envious :)
