Arken EP5 7-35x56… Thought’s?

As long as you understand that youre not getting a Nightforce or Theos going into the purchase you’ll prob be happy with it. Yes heavy but I have it on my bench/tri-pod gun (Panthera 30 700) its not on my woods walk gun. Ive only used 36x for 100yd tuning and its clear enough for that. Doing the pest control work I do, 20x is max and its quite clear. I replaced an Athlon btr gen 2 - Im pretty sure I like the Arken better and plan to keep it on the gun.
Im by no means an authority on glass - Ive been an iron sight guy forever. Im a $2500 gun / $500 scope type a guy…

No first hand experience with the Arkens in that zoom range, but from what I understand DNT is offering an almost identical version with slightly better glass (or maybe just better lens coatings) and different reticle options. Just throwing it out there..

I have several Arkens, and they main thing I love about them is the build quality and the amazing turrets. Some of the best turrets in the industry no matter the cost. Glass quality depends on the model and zoom range, but the EP5 series has a solid reputation for being pretty alright. Better than most people need but not as good as the top tier brands in the industry. Aside from that they have great reticles, if you need a fine one for precision stuff. They are a little too thin for close up woods walking setups.

I have some SH4 G2 4-16x on my powder burners and they are pretty good image quality, not amazing. I also have an EPL4 with their version of Japanese glass and it has a very nice clear image quality with little if any defects.

Bottom line there really isnt anything that directly competes with the Arkens in their respective price ranges. The closest in my opinion would be the Athlon scopes, of which I have owned a few of and havent seen any turrets close to the Arken.

I recently attended a 100 yd BR match and one of my fellow competitors has a 7-35. It is an outstanding scope. Yes, it's heavy, but all scopes with 34 mm tubes are heavy due to the added mass of the tube. The Vortex Razor is heavier yet at 48 oz. If you want something lighter, the EPL series with the 30mm tubes are more in line with the rest of the pack at around 24 oz. I have five various Arken scopes and all of them have excellent optics and a reticle that suits my vision.

Are the power, parallax and if it has it illumination really, really hard to turn like my EPL 4 6-24? I twisted the illumination about 100 times end to end and it is a little better. I agree the turrets are fantastic and glass is really good for the price but I wish I could see the reticle at 6X and that it was as easy to adjust as my new Athlon Argos 10-40. The Athlon turrets are not as good but the glass seems to be (compared them side to side at 24X) and the Athlon is far easier to adjust. I'm wondering if all Arkens are this way.
